Documentaries & films worth anyone's time #3

In this entry I'm introducing a Netflix documentary series entitled "Wild Wild Country". It's a 6-part account of controversial Indian guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rajneesh), popularly known as Osho, and the founding of the Rajneeshpuram community in Wasco County, Oregon. If the names aren't ringing any bells just yet, I can almost guarantee you'll never forget them after watching the series.

As with other controversial topics, it's very hard to talk about this particular figure and the events portrayed in the documentary without veering at least somewhat to one side or the other. To me, the mastery of this documentary series lies exactly in staying true to the old proverb of "There are two sides to every coin". It effectively traverses delicate subject matter such as the boundaries between the concepts of good and evil, group mentality, power, religion, control and freedom, while maintaining a steady objectivity in it's approach to characters and events.

To me, it offers one of the most intriguing insights into human nature and psychology, while also staying wildly entertaining throughout. It's one of those stories where, if it weren't true, you'd probably consider it among the more ludicrous and outlandish works of fiction.
