Get up and keep moving...

I had a conversation with an old acquaintance today and he told of how hard things have become for him. According to him he has been "relegated to the bottom of the ladder because of the failure of the system" and cannot now cater for his family like he should. No work, no business and no joy!

I Feel Blessed!

His story is not different from that of an ordinary Nigerian and some people will tell you that, he is even enjoying.
Back in 2007 when I met him in the field of business, he was doing very well; a good job, a beautiful wife, a tastefully furnished home and posh cars. Life was good! There was no pressure whatsoever because, he had it all.
I guess having a job with an oil company in Nigeria guarantees a life of constant employment, or so he thought. The salary was sweet and he stopped learning and when the company was hit bad due to oil price crash, he was used to secure the lid.
The last time I saw him was in 2012 when we were involved in another business deal together. So much time has passed and now, he is a ghost of himself and has lost self confidence. He could not compete with the ever changing and competitive environment. He told me he became too relaxed and over confident that, he will keep having work to do because he was good at it. He forgot he needed to keep innovating and getting informed of his line of work.

Lots of people fail today not because they didn't know what to do, but because, they didn't care enough to innovate, relearn and pick themselves up to continue from where they fell. Everyone falls and everyone rises when they fall, but it is only a very few that start moving immediately.
No one is guaranteed a win in life; we are all just sure of what it is we want and then, we go where the hustle leads or not. You will fall more times than you can count but, all that matters is that, you get back up and dash towards your goal.

To be fair to him Nigeria is not a normal country. Ideally we should not be Jacks of all trades in the name of innovation, constantly having to adapt to the failure of such a volatile system. I hope he bounces back, or leaves the country for good

Very true, constant updating of ones skill, knowledge and perspective +attitude keeps u on the trend of the ever changing
World. Most people do not realize this. .

The lessons there is gross. We have to learn to relearn and pickup ourselves to continue the race after a fall. Great musing @Ejemai

Hmmm..... this is life. There is no certainty. Innovation and daily push are very vital in life. May the Lord give your friend a second chance in life. Thanx @ejemai.
