Preparing for university

in life •  8 years ago

At heart I have always been an independent person from as young as I can remember. My parents were always shipping me off on school trips and I knew then I didn't mind being away from my parents. For school trips I wasn't away for a long period of time but growing up the trips got longer and I was staying away at friends for longer period of times and more frequently. When I started A Levels back in 2014 I knew that I was already ready to go to uni. I just wanted to be there and living in my own space. Growing up I never had the best relationship with either of my parents at some point, this helped with me becoming more and more independent. I also had to grow up quite quickly from a young age due to my little sister being severely disabled. I had a lot of responsibility whilst growing, which has aided in becoming an independent person. A lot of people my age rely a lot on their parents to buy them things. I have had a job since I was 12, at one point in my life I was working 4 different jobs at the same time so that I could afford the things I wanted in life. Many people I know don't pay for their phone bill like I do or anything else. The only thing I rely on my parents for in this moment in time is the roof over my head when I am at home.
With 5 days until I move out and into my accommodation at university I am becoming more and more excited. I can't wait to leave all the mess behind and start a fresh. This is the new beginning I have been looking for, for the last 5 years. Whilst this is just the beginning of the rest of my life I feel like I know what I am doing and have a plan of what I want to do.
