It has been a while since I've posted anything, but we just recently moved house and it wasn't to a place just down the road either, but to a city around 3 hours away. We have finally unpacked all the boxes and are feeling more settled in. Although it was hard to say goodbye to a city I've lived in for 10 years, we are now just a 5-minute ride from the beach which makes the world of difference.
Okay, back to my blog:
This week Jay has just wanted to blow raspberries all the time. He blows while he’s eating so the food sprays everywhere and he even blows out while he is drinking his bottle sometimes. He thinks it’s terribly funny, too! Stella calls him Mr. Bubbles during mealtimes. Even when he isn’t eating, he’ll just be making smacking sounds or start making farting sounds all the time. He loves it and I think he is fascinated with his lips and tongue. Often while I’m holding him he’ll just stick out his tongue and lick my sweater! When I feed him his bottle, though, he loves to touch my face and grab my nose and try and stick his fingers in my mouth.
The other day when Greg was holding him and sitting with him on the bed, he (as in Greg) started pointing at the dogs and saying their names. It was so cute to watch because Jay would look wherever Greg pointed and he never used to do that before. I’ve also noticed that he has new cries now. I can totally hear the difference between his hungry cry, his dream cry, his sad cry, his hurt cry, his irritated cry and his whining cry.
He is still enjoying zooting all around in his walker and now he is even more fascinated by all the books. I’ve had to push them back into the bookshelf because he likes to pull out a book and then rip off the front cover! He also just likes to pull them off the shelf and watch them tumble onto the floor. He tore one of his books the other day while Stella was reading to him and I’ve taped it back together. When Greg saw what he’d done, he said, “And so it begins.” Ha ha! We bought 4 cans of formula from the baby store on Tuesday and they gave us this DVD collection called “Your Baby Can Read” and it’s four DVDs that are especially made for babies. I was so happy to see that it was an American DVD when I put it on because I shuddered at the idea of a Taiwanese one (like the CDs we got for free). It also came with a set of alphabet flashcards that were made of hard cardboard so they couldn’t tear easily and also a set of the Chinese alphabet. Greg and I can only do the first few of that one, though.
On Thursday I also got around to making and freezing some baby food for Jay. I made him some pumpkin because he really adores it. He still isn’t a huge fan of banana. It was so funny because last night we let him suck on a pizza crust and he totally fell asleep sucking on it!
As you know, Jay has been sleeping with me for the last while and that means we sleep through the night which I love. I used to still try and make him sleep in his crib for a while, but I gave up! When you’re an exhausted mommy and you have to choose between what you’ve heard you “should” be doing and what’s going to give you a full night’s rest – well, you choose the latter! If I put him in his crib he wakes up crying or even screaming (sometimes he sticks his foot through the bars and doesn’t know how to maneuver it to get it back in) and it just means a night where I’m up all the time and feel wrecked in the morning. So, anyway, we’ve moved the crib back into the baby room so Stella can let him sleep there during the day (and he seems to be okay with that), but then at night I just go straight to bed with him without even worrying about the crib which has made me feel a little freer and more relaxed. The other day Jay was playing in the room and he grabbed hold of the bars on the crib and totally tried to pull himself up! Wow! Stella always comments on how strong his legs are and it’s true. He always wants to “stand” or jump and it’s been like that since he was teeny tiny.
Anyway, let me be off.
Lots of love
