All Just Statistics

A viral outbreak
A life that once held meaning
Ceases with a whimper
With no one even listening

I hate the numbers
That reduces our experiences so
Good people become others
When death comes so cold

Every victim needs to be celebrated
For a life well lived
Remembered as more than a statistic
Even while we grieve

Death tolls make it seem so ordinary
That I cannot accept
Its spread may be quite rapid
But each life commands respect
