2020 - The Year That Changed Everything

in life •  4 years ago

So it's December 2019, and I'm on some website or forum where I'm looking up information on China. I was thinking about making a trip there when a blurb about a strange illness pops up. It was among the first reports on the coming coronavirus.

The start of something different

This has been a landmark year. On January 1, who would have thought we'd be facing an actual pandemic like those seen in the movies, only this time for real? it altered the way we live and nothing will ever be the same from here on out.

The killing of George Floyd was something else I saw early on and made me wonder if this time the response would be different. It was. While watching the life ebb from this man, I wondered how police-groupies would defend this one. The vulnerability of him calling out for his mother may have been the turning point for everyone looking on. I remember thinking that if this didn't cause a change in even the most conservative of hearts, that nothing else would. After numerous deaths at the hands of rogue officers, the world finally responded with a shared sense of shock, which resulted in mass action.

There seems to have been a sea change amongst those that would have normally castigated the protesters. If you had asked me just a year ago if such a thing was possible, I'd have said absolutely not. But now all of this has had an effect on the Presidential elections coming up in just a few short months.

With Joe Biden, who was an afterthought in an expected Trump, Sanders matchup in January, now leading in the battleground States, everything has turned upside-down. Are we running away from something bad or towards an even worse destination? There is a real possibility that along with The White House, the Senate could also flip to the Democrats, something not thought possible just six months ago. With over 100 days to go until the elections, anything can happen between now and then. But if you're like me, you sense almost a realignment across the land. It feels like we've crossed the Rubicon where anything can happen. Can you feel it too?

Thank you so much!
