Always cook for two in a relationship. Grilled salmon and corn from the Green Egg.

in life •  8 years ago

When I asked Bianca what she wanted to eat from the Green Egg today she said: 'I don't feel like grilling today'...'I feel like eating soup'...

This bloggers heart nearly collapsed.

Don't get me wrong I like soup. Especially the gravy kind I put over my meat. But normal soup, I can always eat when I'm 80 and no longer have teeth. Can't eat steak with no teeth.

I said, 'you eat soup, I'll fire up the grill and make something for me'

Now, if there is one thing I learned in this relationship is that when Bianca says she wants to eat soup. She actually is saying, I'm going to eat half or more of whatever delicious thing you are about to make.

I couldn't take that risk. I decided to cook for two anyway.

Salmon, corn, and butter. Found some Pita from yesterday I didn't want to waste.

Marinated the salmon in soy sauce. I love the combo.

I missed some green color, went digging and found half a cucumber. Used a grater to make nice shavings.

Realised I didn't want to drip soy sauce all over my coals. So got creative and made a basket from aluminum foil.

I use a thermometer to measure. The whole point of a green egg is to keep the lid closed as much as possible and this thing measured the temperature in 2 seconds.

All you have to do is wait.

It was around this time Bianca showed up looking famished. The conversation started as usual.

'what you making'.

'Salmon with roasted corn'

'Oh...'

(Now this 'oh...' sound is where inexperience relationship users realize they are about to lose half their meal.)

'I also made for you'

'Thank, you!'

I got everything off the grill and gave the corn an extra coating of butter. It maybe doesn't belong in a diet but you got to live a little.

End result. I need to work on my plating skills but it tasted delicious, wich I guess is the most important thing.

Great post. Great grill. Food looks healthy and delicious. Smart move on cooking for your partner. I do the same with my wife. I know she always likes the finish product. This way I can have my portion all for myself. lol

'..normal soup, I can always eat when I'm 80 and no longer have teeth. Can't eat steak with no teeth' LOL!

True that, but The Green Egg company will sponsor you some titanium veneers for the Steaks!

lol! Man, you had me in stitches. I hope they will :)

Hahaha, smart man, sounds like you have some experience!

You're a very wise man. Always make sure in whatever you do, to make sure there's enough for her too. I was a little slow on the draw and took my wife's "oh, I'm fine" or " I don't want anything" a bit too literally in my younger years, needless to say I've learned the error of my ways. :)

I'll have to try the salmon with soy, that looks and sounds amazing!! There was only one thing missing with your presentation, the ice cold beer to go along with it!! :)

Glad to read actually I'm not the only one the went through this experience :). Salmon and soy are buddies IMHO. I'll have a beer tonight to make up!

You did very well with the plating skills but the most important thing is you cooked for her, caring for each other deepens your relationship and i am sure that she had appreciated your cooking talent, as appreciation in relationships make the bond even stronger.

Beautifully written man and true :). And thanks for saying nice things abut my plating skills.

Look very healthy and delicious. Thanks for sharing.

This post is brought to you by The Green Egg. Proud sponsors of @exyle. :)

Good thinking regarding cooking for two. My wife is the same way. Soup = "I'm going to eat your delicious dinner"

Always cook for two!

Soup over grill, madness. However no-one could refuse that final dish, the cucumber looks very chef'y!

Madness indeed! Yeah my cucumber skills are impressive, LOL :)

Always a good boast ;0)

"This bloggers heart nearly collapsed."

LOL Good one. 😂

Green Egg for life! :)
I'm glad that you were able to cook something delicious like this up.
I did not want the Grill God Exyle to finish his reign as ruler.
Well, I'm really hungry now haha

Thanks, man!

Does your wife consider chili a form of soup?

Chili on the BGE is amazing. I have never made it, but my brother-in-law competes at BGE cookoffs, so I have tried it there.

I LOVE chilli :) gonna ask him to cook that, thanks

Lets fire up the egg!

That looked awesome! So did Bianca shared some of your salmon meal in the end? lol

Of course we shared :)

Oef man it is getting harder and harder to read your posts without drooling! Even when I just had dinner your cooking skills get me all hungry again! It really is a great idea to always cook for 2...more persons ;)

I used to cook for 8 when my 4 boys were around. Now I cook for myself. It is hard to adjust!

I'm from Saint-Petersburg, it's a bit far away lol.

Ha ha yes that is how women are lol..smart guy !! Happy Independence Day!

You just forgot to mention I also shared my soup with you! 😒

I'd cook for my wife but I doubt she would eat it lol.

so good ,i like it

I just had salmon and asparagus for dinner! haha #Deutschland

Haha smart man! So much better than soup :-)

Yet another meal from the green egg. It all looks delicious, would love to taste the corn. Thank you for sharing

I always cook for four.

This looks delicious. If you like spice, add a little Siracha to your soy next time. The soup comment was funny, the exception to this are Korean soups because they're hearty, spicy and make you sweat. Following you. It's nice to see someone with good content.

That green egg is working overtime, and I can see why looks goooood!!

Looks great! Wish I was having that for dinner right now :)
