"Be careful with Bitcoin, it's dangerous!"

This is one of the first things I heard when I went to work today.

Nowadays I usually just nod when I hear things like that and hope it will go away.

Which it did.

I no longer feel the need to debate.

Blockchain will be in everyone's life all by itself.

I just prefer to invest my time with people that see it too.

IMG_7759.jpg

What the person mend that said it is probably the speculative price at the moment.

They probably watched the news and saw 'respectable people' tell them it's a bubble or whatnot.

Now it's hard to argue for or against that because the price of Bitcoin can go up or crash at any moment.

I have seen this before.

But I'm also convinced that the person that said it has not spent one evening researching the technology behind Bitcoin and trying to understand it.

And yet, they have an opinion about it fully ready.

Now, I used to be like that. I can't lie.

When I heard about Bitcoin in 2011, I thought it was nonsense. A waste of time.

Only when I sat down and spend one evening researching it in 2013. It opened my eyes.

What helped was at that time I was researching where fiat money comes from. (which was a shocker in itself).

I spend probably months of my life trying to understand the technology and thinking of ways how it can be used.

I also bought my first Bitcoin around that time.

I invested in Bitcoin because I saw the value of the technology that drives it. Blockchain.

And I could not stop talking about it.

I must have told everyone I know. I drove them crazy.

Most of the time to deaf ears.

And eventually, I stopped talking about it.

But I kept learning by myself.

I taught myself about Ethereum and eventually STEEM and all other kinds of crypto.

Now, all that information is in my head. And I understand it. I live it daily.

But what's happening now is strange.

People are getting interested in crypto and asking me about it.

But it's not about the technology.

It's about in which crypto they should invest. It's about the quick money. (I sense this straight away)

And it rubs me the wrong way.

I just can't get motivated to explain it.

I was wondering if you guys have similar experiences like this.

Now, to talk about the technology with likeminded people is heaven.

The first time I truly understood this was Steemfest 1.

200 people like me in one location talking about crypto and not having to explain myself.

I loved it.

And since then it only got better.

I now get to talk about it almost daily in my vlogs, but also with @ezzy and @rea and the @blockbrothers, Bianca ( @bkdbkd) and my mom ( @clio), and probably a lot of people on steemit.

And they all love it for what it is even though they are at various stages of understanding.

It makes all the difference.

I feel very fortunate.

"And they all love it for what it is even though they are at various stages of understanding". That's nicely said, Mark, I don't understand everything, but I'm learning every day and I do love it for what it is. Just a few days ago you explained to me the difference between the witnesses Steem has and the way other crypto's handle the 'crypto trade. The great difference in the use of electricity for instance. It's so very interesting!!
I still tell other people of the future blockchain has to offer, but I'm sorry to say I have the same experience quite often, people only think about money! Let them be, I stick with Steem!

Mom you are right, when you tell some people about something today, they only look at what it worth presently, without thinking of what it might be tomorrow. If it happen now to be a strike on the moon, they will all come and be asking silly question.

Yes people think about quick money. But i have mostly discussed steem/steemit with people and they still seem to have a hard time understanding. I think the potential money gain people can get from these investments is a huge attraction we shouldn't look down upon. I among many just don't have the brain to understand anything more than the basics of the technology. It have to be proven in the real world use before people realize what we are having here(including myself)

While that is said it's still so important to follow the word to mouth principle and spread the knowledge. Something I'm sure you already do @exyle.

I experience the same... now I am tired to defend or talk about... let them decide themselves.. I am happy Steem is in my life... but need to dose it a bit..

Always happy to know, it's not just me :)

@exyle

Yes, now that I am a new family, I love her and I love her. She is a steemit community. I am very pleased and give me the hope that I will come to my dream.

yes

Yeah i have to admit i got abit frustrated last few weeks,
not because people call it a bubble, but because they just scream that word...
but when you ask them to explain they dont actualy know what there talking about...
i learned to let it go now tho, like exyle said... they will find out eventualy :)

Well said it brother steemian, we love Steemit in our life

True, this is because the mainstream media is talking about Bitcoin now... BBC published news as:
"The head of one of Britain's leading financial regulators has warned people to be ready to "lose all their money" if they invest in Bitcoin."

I feel this is good news, at-least every person is now familiar with bitcoin, and when they see the potential of crypto-currencies, they will ultimately get involved with it. I think cryto will replace fiat much sooner than expected.

@exyle,
Well said dude! I also avoid such nonsense and time wasting chit chats or arguments! Hey today I could found this group photo (first time I watched steem.io) I see you there :D At the steem fest 1!

Cheers~

yeah, that's me!

@exyle,
You are in the front page of steem.io :D Congratz and I could see your friend too!

Cheers~

I fell the same:

"I no longer feel the need to debate."

I don't even tell anyone about it anymore, especially at work!

Same here.

Glad to read more can relate.

I agree everyone has been preaching BTC will be dead any moment now since it began. The interesting thing though is that it won't. And here is the reason why excerpted from a Daily Analyisis I wrote.."Bitcoin is more than just a financial instrument, a commodity to be traded. It is a beacon of hope. Hope for the little man that they can finally be out from under the thumb of the financial institutions that have made it their business to profit off the backs of the common man. Be it fees, interest rates etc. Banks have for so long dictated the wealth structure in this country. In fact it is such now, that in order to have a "Knights Tail" type of story you will have to overcome many hurdles. The world is actually geared in such a way as to keep you at your current financial level. On the path to riches it seems as if it is 1 step forward 3 steps back.. Bitcoin changes this, it allows the common man the opportunity to leave his socioeconomic class and swim with the whales, if only for a moment.. Bitcoins power is in its ability to inspire, to allow people to dream bigger and possibly be more than they ever could have been otherwise... it's not going anywhere...

@pawsdog

Dude, this was cool, really good

Absolutely true!

I don't debate it either now. Like you, when I first got into it all I was an evangelist for crypto and also steemit. No-one really understood or even tried to understand. So now I am happy to leave it be and occasionally answer the odd question. Although i too get annoyed by the fast buck mentality of the questions being asked these days!

It's funny how more and more people feel this way :)

I'm noticing this too. When I get asked about bitcoin, its always about the money. Lots of people still can't quite wrap their heads around how much this is going to change the world. It can be a scary thing to think about. I don't force the education side of it on people, I just tell them to research it if they want to know how to buy it. I'm surprised that people we know are actually asking if they can give us money to invest in crypto FOR them. I can't in good conscience do that. I tell them that if they want to be able to make money from it, they need to understand it. It's not fast easy money. 🤔

It's not fast easy money

Debatable 😜
All kidding aside, I feel confident saying that within the next 10-20 years the amount of blockchains people interact with on a daily basis will increase exponentially. At the same time - a part of me hopes Bitcoin only has a small role in that. Compared to literally any other Crypto, BTC is a dinosaur.

Yep, at first they didnt care. Now its on MSM a lot, so the questions are starting to arise...

Fortunately the people I interact with are pretty open about the idea but some people's reaction make me feel like I'm part of a cult or something and that I try to convert them :)) which kind of puts me off

Fortunately the people I interact with are pretty open about the idea

This is a blessing.

I also have the same experience like you, last year when I told my friends about bitcoin, it was sounding like trash to there hearing. But today bitcoin price has move up and good news about bitcoin is every were, they are fall back coming to ask which cryptocurrency should they invest on.
But I'll try my best to put them through on want they need to know

I think it has no sense to tell about BTC, but maybe people do understand STEEM, and I found out that STEEM is easy to tell about. The first thing they do is compare with fb,.. but anyway, at least I convinced 5 others to start using STEEM and make it big together.

Oh, yes, my friend, you do not even know how much I heard bad about Bitcoin a year ago. My friends with whom I started talking about Bitcoin and the Blockchain as a whole, told me about the Bitcoin pyramid and the near collapse of my investments. BUT BUT BUT, a year has passed and everyone was already interested in me, what to do and how to build my strategy is amazing, but true! I'm sure this technology has long been impossible to stop! Thank you @exyle for your conviction!

nice post, you made a wise decision indeed to learn about cryptos graudally and your good decision is paying off now, it's true in order to take part in the crypto world we first need to understand it throughly and explaining and convincing someone is a difficult task indeed unless he is willing to learn it, thanks for sharing your nice thoughts with us, your posts always gives me more encouragement, Stay awesome

Thanks, man! and Have a great weekend.

similarly when i listen about btc before 3 4 years ago i researched a small and i believe it and i told many people but no one believe it only my one uncle and he buy some btc and dont care about it but this year he is so excited and now say his childs and friends about it to invest more in this

Let people say what they want,,, I personally started trading BTC and digital currencies with a small amount of money $200, from the beginning of this year,, now my $200 become $1600 which means 8 times double,, imagine if I was afford to start $10k it will be $80k by today,, so I am only positive and ambitious,, I dont care about what others say.

This is how I feel too! I only started a few months ago, thanks to being able to put in <$50 amounts thanks to Coinbase, but even in that little time my investment has nearly tripled. I'm very optimistic.

Evey one is weirded out by stuff they know nothing about.

Isn't that strange?

@exyle It is actually a survival instinct! It's the reason our species survived, evolved and reached nowadays' technological advancement. But we shouldn't let it take the best of us! Never forget, caution means safety and risk means profit!

But this is the time of the information age any thing you don't know or under stand you can google it.

@exyle I agree with everything you said! I'm tired myself of trying to explain others how beneficial it could actually be for THEMSELVES to listen to what I'm saying and do some research in order to educate themselves. The masses are and have always been helpless.

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

ur research is more better from all of us about crypto that u research in 2013 and still u do it whats u think how many blockchains will launch in next year or all next years is any limit or not to launching blockchains @exyle

Congratulations @exyle on becoming a witness for blockbrothers. That is awesome news and very happy for you!

@blockbrothers is a witness for the STEEM blockchain. I am part of the team. and Thank you!

I wish I had invested in Bitcoin when I first heard about it three or so years ago. Unfortunately, I took notice of the so-called 'experts' who said it was nothing but a fad and wouldn't last (slap to the forehead!). I have not made that mistake with Steem and hopefully my faith in the system and what it stands for will pay off in the long term. I see crypto being the way of the future as the world becomes more decentralized and people seek to unshackle themselves from the yoke of governments and central bank diktats.

I've admired your work on Steemit for sometime now and I will certainly vote for you as a witness. Thanks for all your hard work.

Thank you for the upcoming vote on our witness. I think many regret not investing in BTC but that's easy in hindsight. With STEEM you made a good decision. I fully believe in it. Thank you for your nice words.

I have same experience whit friends. First they laughed at me, when I talked about Bitcoin being great investing opportunity around $600, now every time we get together they ask me all this questions. I just say "information is money":).

Your not alone with this story.

On a positive note I was converting some SBD today and I realised that my mind is actually calculating in terms of how much Steem/Steem Power I have instead of Dollars for the first time. Thats a big moment.

Yes exyle. I get many questions from newcomers about where to invest. But i think you can find many people interested in crypto ideas even here on steemit. It's nice to talk with people with similar ideas and interests.

Yes, the Steemit community has been great for me as a place to talk about crypto.

When i hear things like bitcoin is a bubble or it's dangerous...i just ignore that. I've been listening for that a very long time. But bitcoin doesn't seem to care

Awesome post man and so true !!! No use in wasting breath on people who can't see what could be so beneficial to them.

Good quote!

Yes, people who did a lot of polite smiling and nodding, thinking we were a "little bit out there" when we mentioned bitcoin are now asking questions. Crypto seems to be like parenting techniques, everyone has an opinion that they feel compelled to express, whether you solicit it or not.

I just read this today.
https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@angelicawtfn/people-not-asking-but-telling-me-about-bitcoin

--You are NOT alone---

I am here because I decided that I wanted to be a content creator. My partner had told me about bitcoin and explained how cryptocurrencies work, and one day he mentioned that this platform, based on the same tecnology, was what I needed. Now I feel like I'm part of the future, a future that only a minority are living.

But I feel lonely too. I am not a typical user and I feel that my public has not jet come to steemit (I write and I make videos about pet's health in spanish). 👩🏽‍⚕️🐶

I will have to prepare a path for them and leave the content that I know they will want for when they arrive...

I am one of those persons that you feel that you have waisted your time talking to. Keep on spreading knowledge and be patient.

You are still an early adopter. Start working on your blog and see it as a project of years. I read somewhere that it takes 2 years to get a blog going with regular readers. The STEEM blockchain will only grow and your audience will arrive at some point.

I am not planning to give up. I’mhere to stay. Why is it so cool to be an early adopter 😎? Thank you for answering. You are one of the first people to write back and It’s very comforting 🙂

It is good to hear it. Do you really read all comments?

Yes I do.

I find that, if I discuss it over a drink (beer or wine), I enjoy the conversation.

If I'm discussing it at work, I'll send them some links from Steemit to see if that influences them. (@heiditravels usually go over well). If not, I won't bother defending my position against someone who is not willing to listen.

Many years ago, people didn't think the computer would ever be useful for home use. Some people just don't see the potential that's right in front of their eyes.

Some people just don't see the potential that's right in front of their eyes.

Isn't that the truth! But in the end they all make the switch.

yeah its talk of the town, everywhere, and the next that i would hear is bubble and going to burst.. :( ..

no point, move on spend more quality times on steemit, my heart would always tell..

one day they would be rushing to steemit as steemit pays on crypto as well, but that time you would be somebody and this ppl would be newbie, just be humble and move on, and still teach them only if they are willing to listen.. :)

I kind of get a mix of this. I'm still learning about crypto, but just last week my brother in law asked about mining and ended up getting distracted half way through. Another conversation left unfinished 😂 at least he's somewhat interested.

Awesome so I am profiting from this super dangerous job everyday sounds cool, exactly right @exyle I dont get into arguments either, just concentrate on what your doing the rest will eventually follow.

I also tend to not really talk about crypto. I have friends who ask me about STEEM and BTC who think they're just scams. People just hear cryptocurrency and assume they're all just different BTC's. Me personally I don't own any BTC because I don't have ay use for it. Which is why I use Steemit because the tokens hold value to me.

I still have BTC because it has the name and I think people will buy it based just on that. I consider the tech ancient compared to STEEM.

Yep, yes, ja! About a week ago my Dad wrote me an email that he is really worried about us. This evil bitcoin is just a bubble! My husband and I are investing for a half year now and before we did that I read all about philosophical and technical background infos. I totally believe like you said the technology will be and partly already is in everyones life. And the more research I did I felt like trying to understand "god". I realized we don't even grasp yet what this technology can do for us in the future. I will see my Dad in 2 days again. We will see if he read all the info I sent him. And my Dad is just an example for a lot of people I met with the same reaction

It's dangerous! Yeah tell them it bites.
Some ppl just can't get out of their shells or comfort zone !
So it's easier to keep doubting anything new around them specially if it works perfectly and rising !
They r doubting the idea of being out of the control of politicians ,However Bitcoin is there dor years now and rising.
They just can't take it!

same here :))

@exyle I loved trading more SBD for STEEM tonight. Such a Great Deal.

Hey nice said @exyle

yes @exyle you are right. in my office mostly my office mate did not believe on crypto and made a fun on me. i am trying to motivate and awareness about it. today i am happy because my two office fellow agree to work on it.
I am also excited to join crypto in time. thanks

Wow friend bitcoin will do crazy a lot of people, the best is be inside of him

I hear ya! I try to tune politics out in the same way for better or worse :/

this was awesome:

Most of the time to deaf ears.

it is really nice that you are passionate about it, I wish I could understand it easily.

I'll follow you...would you like to follow me back?

Yeh I was skeptical at first but soon realized I was listening to "The Herd".
I expect Bitcoin to get to $20,000 by Christmas and many other altcoins to jump up a few pegs in Coinmarketcap.

Jesus, i felt just the same when i first heard of blockchain! I kept marveling at how the human brain could be capable of such genius!

Bitcoin is very dangerous!

Sure be carefull with bitcoins, but go all out when it comes down to steem ♡

Woopwoopwoop

loved it

Thanks for sheding more light on this issue.......block chain all the way.

Hi @exyle, hope you're doing great. I'm surprised that still there are some people who are not happy with cryptocurrency. Your strategy in this regard is very good, keep it up. Keep sharing great stuff and stay Blessed!

happy enjoy....

Now, to talk about the technology with likeminded people is heaven.
This is the reality now!!. Actually spend hours today talking about steem and it felt like i was in a classroom. Coutries will soon trade swiftly with crypto..

Very good awareness post. I saw the value of the technology that drives it. Blockchain.thanks for the post

you canot be in crypto and not have bitcoin , to me doesn't make any sens..... alts go up when bitcoin is quiet and alts go down when bitcoin rise , that's a common pattern now....I'm about 60 % bitcoin and 40 % alts, I make ICOs

This is just the beginning as well.
I try talking to some of my peers about it and they act like I'm speaking a foreign language lol.

Do you know when is the next STEEMFEST?

No not yet.

Nice. I think there might be a move from Bitcoin investment soon, but blockchain is amazing tech.

It is dangerous because of the Greed , Dishonesty , Selfishness , Arrogance , Close-Mildness same as anything else in the world.

Wow.... Congratulations @exyle.... Nice one

The title did scared me a little hearing from you ;)
But yep we have high hope for it and for Steem as well ;)
I do believe in the system and the persons behind it !
I am loving it !

Your speech is the openness. Thanks for sharing the informative content about bitcoin@exyle

Don’t care about what people said, why they said like that because they don’t have knowledge about it, and they don’t want to thinking out of box, when I hear about bitcoin from @ayijufridar I belive it will grow up faster that what they expected, many thanks for your story

The concept is what makes me trust in the system and it provides the value as an investor and the faith too rises in the system seeing FUD around is now a common thing for me and don't even give a damm reaction to it people and special politicians will play in this but they could never succeed in taking this crypto world down as it don't run in their hands

I am very lucky because everyone who around me believes that bitcoin is a financial instrument and they trade bitcoin like crazy

"It's dangerous", for almost 9 years hahaha :)

You are fortunate, indeed. One of the core factors for me being interested in this technology was definitely your blog/vlog. I admire your words when you talk about blockchain. Kudos on that, man.

some people don't spent the extra leg work to find out the WHY for sure -- once you have that covered you really open you up to a new way to live and boy was i looking for something like this all my 20's and 30's -- now in my 40's i feel like my worries about working are null and void. we will have PLENTY to do ;)
