Powering down? In the end it's non of my business.

Last night our witness @blockbrothers noticed that Ned started a power down.

That's the beauty of our app Steemify. You can add as many accounts as you like and get notified about anything regarding those accounts.

Notifications about power down is one of them. I use them as an extra security feature (besides account changes) on all my accounts.

We all also have added Ned because as a witness (we are 4 people) we are interested in what he has to say on the blockchain and we like to be notified about it as soon as possible.

So this happened last night:

6f4131ba-959f-420f-8c0c-9ca050ce92e4.JPG

The first instinct is panic! Why? WTF? What's going on...(that sort of stuff).

Perfectly normal first reaction, maybe he got hacked?

That was clearly not the case.

We were talking about it and being a long time member I remembered that it wasn't the first time this happened.

Many accounts have powered down over the years.

So I did some digging.

I found this picture of an article I wrote on 17 March 2017 here.

It's a screenshot from Steemwhales (no longer works).

You will see many familiar names on that list.

It's clear to see that many accounts used to have more SP back then than they have now.

Yet they are all still here.

Maybe they sold their SP for other crypto or fiat, maybe they spread it out over multiple accounts and used it for different purposes.

In the end it's non of my business really, so who cares?

What I do care about is the rest of the article.

I am so happy in that article because STEEM just doubled overnight.

The 40k Steem power I had back then doubled from $5000 to $10,000.

This was before I knew what the future had in store for crypto and I wrote in the article that I will probably be stuck on 40k forever.

I consider 10.000 dollars to be a lot and can't risk more money in the bank to add to this.

Yet here we are 15 months later.

All those accounts powered down in the past and yet the STEEM price is higher than I could have ever imagined back then.

Also the Steem blockchain is so much richer in development and apps then in the beginning of 2017.

In the end all those power downs didn't matter much.

When it comes to STEEM I would recommend you make your own decisions and build your own journey.

I'm glad I did.

I guess @ned has his reasons. Perhaps to invest in new developments for the Steem blockchain. Who knows! Exciting time still ahead of us!

Thank you!

Yup look @ackza just did a post showing the screenshot from @ned 's Smart Media token telegram chat. where Med confirms that hes staying with steem (Which we of course knew but many new users and even some old were and still are worried)

https://steemit.com/steem/@ackza/ned-scott-ceo-of-steemit-inc-co-2018-5-0-14-25-3

So there you have it, @ned in his Own Words confirming that he is NOT leaving steem, that he is Indeed STAYING!

so I hope we can show this to as many of them as possible and I hope @ned makes a post about how he only powered down that 1.8 million steem and how thats NOT selling it on the market, people need to know the difference! And also how thats NOT even CLOSE to half his stake, just because its half the stake in that ONE "ned" account doesnt mean much!

Ned is simply moving around funds and its to help develop cool stuff for steem!

thanks for sharing this!!

I jsut hope it’s soemthing for the better of Steem and not just taking it all then destroying the value of Steem. I don’t like living my life with regrets

Well if someone like @ned is powering down, it is no big deal after all he has loads of sp to burn and he is probably using it for a project or payment for services.

I am only concerned when I am powering down and I know damned well that I didnt touch that button. Oh I will be very concerned.

Typical mass panic, man. We've seen it a hundred times over and will continue to see it hundred times more.

Oh sorry... I'm I worried? Not in the damn slightest.

I have a policy I follow. Mind my own business. I will do what I feel is necessary for my future regardless of what others do. I am not a lemming. I might read what someone is up to but I would never tell them that they are wrong to do something. Iknow the neighbour's yard always looks greener, but it is best to spend your tme and effort on your own yard.

It is odd to power down wen #steem is low.
The beauty for #steem you earn #Steem by posting.
@ned got #steem by other avenue.
By cashing now, he is just paying himself out.
Keep on postin'

the power down is ok as ned always use it wisely but the engagement activity is quite a lot to be concerned about now for steemit many people have left this platform and no more post's

i was able to see ur post and actually ur comment being flagged made me curious as to why bernie flagged it, so you should thank berniesanders for flagging your comments because it actually makes them standout among all the other non flagged comments ;)

but after viewing your comment i see why it was flaggedm :D you basically asked for it,

Now you wont see my posts anymore, because berniesanders will flag all of them

lol well, yeah, you got what you kinda asked for lol. try asking for forgiveness and explain how you will change? you cannot get into fued with those on here with more Steempower thqan you, you will loose and it is not worth it, You may be able to salvage things socially if you just ask politely and explain your reasons for being defensive maybe, i dunno,m people get second chances. He can be very reasonable, just come on steemspeak.com ask to talk to ngc and just be polite and respectful and Understand you are going in to the conversation not expecting to get any flags removed and understand he had a reason for doing so in the first place and your goal is to convince him you have changed enough to warrent him changing his policy toward you. You have a high possibility to make things right between yourself and Bernie and steem but i suggest you start by not making comments about how steem is a "swamp" simply because theres 1 user you don't agree with you flags your posts, but if you just lease out your SP delegation you can earn liquid SBD/Steem every week or month however you want, and you can then avoid being flagged if you just depend on income from that delegation leasing out instead of from your own post rewards. Anyway try to reason with him first to express that youve learned a lesson etc. Just try to show your value. I know it can seem rough but you CAN reach out and respectfully reason and ask to make deals with people!

Sometimes it's best to swallow your pride and know when youve been bested.

May be Ned is planning to invest in marketing STEEM ...

The problem that I have found with Steemit is it can be a very murky and convoluted journey. It is extremely hard to remain relevant and consistent in the community, which is what it takes to maintain a following here. The constant exertion from posting good content can wear on even the best bloggers here. I have completely exhausted myself in the past trying to keep up with other daily posters and have barely even made an impression in the community. For this Steemit can be very daunting and intimidating for new users.

@ned will surely have his reason for takeing such action, it might be for the development of steemit in another project. I believe we all have individuals reason for acting in one way of other for our actions. I don't think @ned is someone that will leave steemit as a stakeholder that is very influential.

I think it makes sense if some of these whales start to power down a bit. I am not sure if I was in the same position that I would power down when the price is as low as it is but it allows them to invest in other projects.

I am thrilled to see people like you still posting and creating on this platform even when the price is in the shitter and there is so much BS out there. It makes me feel a whole lot more confident knowing whales like you are still pushing through!

Thank you

Well, what do you do? Just keep steeming! Ned recently commited to the keto diet maybe the lack of carbs is making him think funny. Probably not. Haha, there's likely something exciting coming down the pipe. Good for you for staying on the up & up. Have a great day!

That's interesting @exyle.

I hope Ned powering down doesn't set off a whole chain of people writing articles about how he shouldn't do so. Although nobody forces me to read them of course. 😁

Those numbers in that table look pretty small to how many of them are nowadays.

I wonder what they'll look like, mine included, in 15 months time.

I hope Ned powering down doesn't set off a whole chain of people writing articles about how he shouldn't do so. Although nobody forces me to read them of course.

Thing is others say that some members have to much stake and to much power. To leave this power behind you need to power down.

In the end anything you do is never right.

I have always concentrated on my own journey and believe in this platform and continue to do so.

To leave this power behind you need to power down.

In the end anything you do is never right.

Good points @exyle.

As you say, we can only ever play our own game.

Have a brill day!!! 😁

I think it is important to take it all in context too. Those bigger accounts can move stuff around and still have a ton vested in the system because they are starting with so much. It is also pretty rare that Ned is out there voting content that isn't by another whale, so it isn't like his SP is really contributing to the platform. That is my opinion anyway. What is the point of having all that power if you aren't going to use it for some good. Like you said though, in the end, it is really none of our business.

great outlook and a fantastic point. his SP is tied up and would better flowing elsewhere if/when he sells it.

In the year I have been here I have seen many doing the same and a couple used it for building other dreams they have so I just carry on and for now I just hodl...

I assume thats his personal stake and its really not our business what he decides to do with it! but if the steemit account started to power down, then i would get scared lol!

Hopefully he plans to redistribute it to another account to delegate it for more Steem projects! since the Steem hunt thing was such a success, I assume they are looking for more worthwhile projects to delegate to

but if the steemit account started to power down, then i would get scared lol

Already happened before and we are still here :)

Was this recent? How did i miss this? I've been here for almost 6 months and i didn't notice that at all! lol

I believe most went to 'savings' and another part to delegation of awesome projects on the blockchain like dtube, dlive, steemhunt, esteem ect ect...

So many questions when I saw the news...I'll admit, I was a little concerned. Why would the CEO of Steemit not show and prove to other investors that this is something to believe in and stay the course...What could this be signalling....Is he leaving Steemit?

But after a good nights sleep..I agree with you man....It's none of my business what he does or does not do with his STEEM.

And who knows what he's doing. It's his call, his gig....

All I can really control is what I choose to do with my STEEM power and my time here on the blockchain...And hopefully, be it naive or not, it's to stick with it for the long run :)

Well, I he would clean whole his account, I would be getting worried. But this, well it is his work, so he is entitled to get paid for it, doesn't he...

And I am pretty sure he is going to spend it on the SMT-project, which will eventually ad value to the Steem blockchain, so actually this power down is a pretty damn good thing...

Mark @exyle maybe @ned is powering down so he can Buy some EOS and get a Bunch of those Air Drops............Maybe he knows that STEEMIT will convert over to being a Dapp on the EOS Blockchain.

He is powering down when market is in bear phase. So it is expected if he is in need of the money than because of his greed.

Why are you assuming it’s going to be sold?

Because if he wanted to do anything within steem framework he could do by delegating

Still it would have been cool if we got a heads up first. Calming people down in a bearish market is something he should be thinking of.

Like earlier hope he has his good reasons behind it.

While I liked the feature of Steemify adding that feature as well. While Many who have invested in here does believe in Steem .like you said you are indeed kind of a great investor in terms of intellect and timing.

Lets hope for the best of all of us.

I'm here since January this year and yet to touch the 100 SP mark! I don't care who power down or not. I have made my decision of touching the feet of having 100SP and slowly moving on that journey.

WTF

I am actually cooking up a post about recent powerdowns ongoing and for the first time, I am actually dissapointed.

I was in a discord forum this morning and everybody is talking about powering down . Like for real, is this how Steem will end?

Everybody is dumping this blockchain for maybe "EOS".

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

By everybody, I assume you mean every single active person on Steemit. Must have been a pretty big room then...

Hell no!

That's off-content bro

Posted using Partiko Android

This could be an another interesting move from @ned. Thanks to your great app feature. Seems so exciting.

So basically you are saying that you don't really care as much has you did before Sir. Well, as for me I don't have much sp so I can't really feel this condition the way you do.

Well yeah, first instinct is panic really, but well @ned will always have the well being of the platform in his mind

"The first instinct is panic! Why? WTF? What's going on...(that sort of stuff)."

I am experiencing this panic mode, staring at your post even after 15 minutes.

I guess some money is needed by @ned to finalize the SMTs project,my thought though.

I just believe in the potential SMTs will offer....monetize the whole Internet!

And the beat goes on... we all do what is best for us. Ned may have terminal cancer... or a brain tumor... or a new favorite game... who can judge the actions of another?

When Steemify for android?

I don't have enough knowledge about steemit yet to make a statement ... but I hope that this won't have any effects on steem. But even if it does have that great effect, it's still none of my business. It's only too bad I didn't know earlier so could have jumped in much earlier.

Soon we see :) I think Ned plans something new :) but soon we see what.

@exyle I am confident that this power down can only result in bringing this platform to a whole ‘nother level of awesomeness 🙌🏻

-Ken

Markets and people tend to have some panic in them whenever they see a major shareholder or top brass selling. This is why some companies will make some efforts in making it both a normal thing and an expected thing. Many of them will sell off small amount of shares over a prolonged amount of time. They might even bring attention to it that they are just selling their shares as a normal thing that was already planned and nothing has changed over such things.

A sudden and unannounced or nonpublic planned selling on the other hand is something to keep an eye on. Cryptocurrency still has a fair amount to learn in the art of not shocking the investors. Than again prime money making opportunity for those who have the means to do so and take advantage of the panicking public.

Hi exyle. He must have his reasons and hopefully he will reinvest it back by powering up again soon. Everyone has trying times at some point so I think it will be a fairly common thing in the future.

It is a huge achievement to achieve the result of life risk! He'll be the legend!

Hey guys!have you all heard about cereal?
Cereal allows to obtain a loan in cash secured by crypto or mining equipment without selling your investment.i know that there are already some other projects out there in the same area, but it can rule them all!
https://cerealfinance.com/,

Nice little read thanks mate. I guess it can be worrying when whales power down as its no different to whales having a huge sell off of a particular coin

Yeah I don't think it's something to worry about. It could mean a million things, and after all everybody have the right to make decisions like that.

I think @ned is just a normal human being, he has to pay his bills!! :D
It can spread some fear because of his reputation and high expectations, but as you said, the usual!

Thanks for shedding some light on the powerdown phenomenon @exyle :)

It's chance for someone for powering up BIGGER... LoL

It is a natural thing to do. Because it is a personal asset of him that is not related to the other.
Hope to get a little delegate .. lol

The most likely thing is that you will invest in another project new developers steem greetings very interesting post

ned gearimg up for competition...I feel steemit gonna see a lot of changes or maybe he buying some alts
