Ribeye Steak from the Green Egg - with a lesson learned. VIDEO

in life •  8 years ago

The weather was great tonight, I was alone at home, Bianca is out with her girlfriends till late.

I found a Rib Eye steak in the freezer (which I should have gotten out in the morning). Defrosted the steak in water. Admittedly, it's not my favorite defrosting method, but it beats the microwave 100%. In a pinch, it works ok. The best method is just let it defrost in the fridge.

Grilling the steak didn't really go as planned. The steak was a little colder than I expected totally disrupting the grilling timer clock in my head. I had to make adjustments on the fly.

I did end up with a perfect medium steak but I prefer medium rare. Lesson learned.

I think it will be a good idea if I measure the temperature of the steak next time before I put it on the grill if I use this defrost method. Never really thought about that but I think it could work.

Good old exyle and his lovely grill.
I'll probably now go eat something because i'm hungry again as a hungry lobster :'(

Looks like another lesson from you. Last time you gave us cooking lesson, it was for meat balls, but this time it is looking kinda more delicious. Your 15 years of cooking experience is paying off @exyle. Always love to see you doing cooking and your vlogs are really awesome, especially now when you have just started transacting business on steemit (your last steemit job).

Thanks a lot, man!

The result looks great ! Now I want to eat something after watching this :D gotta have a snack :P

Great to see you had a beautiful piece of rib eye in your freezer.
What is the brand of wood shavings that you buy since I might get some if they burn well and produce no scent.
Despite the fact the steak was too cold for your liking it still came out pretty well.
@exyle you keep making me hungry with your amazing cooking haha.

The brand is KM Fire Maker.

Sometimes I also use this method of defrosting, when there is no time to wait. Thanks for your post. Now I know that I'm not one)

Now I know I'm not the only one too

That's not looking too bad for medium steak man. I always forget to pull the meat from the freezer. Great idea about using lukewarm water.

It works well defrosting in that way.

A Brazilian barbecue in this would be wonderful :)

I grilled Picanha in this and it was delicious. But can't use the traditional churrasco sword (I'm not sure if that is the name) in here :)

Love to watch u cooking...the end result is mouth watering. Am gonna go eat now. Thank u for sharing

Did you defrost a rib-eye? Sacrilege!

Just kidding...

It is a little bit :)

Cooking with Exyle...man you should ask if someone could make a banner of this to start your cooking with exyle blog posts with. Also...man it's just the best hobby, grilling with THE Green Egg!

Couldn't agree more about defrosting methods. I'll use the microwave only as a last resort. It never thaws evenly and ends up actually cooking the edges a bit.

I know this is your cooking vlog, but I wanted to tell you how much I love what you're doing promoting business transactions on Steemit. I didn't get a chance to catch your post earlier today, so I got caught up tonight and I think it can't be understated how important educating members how we can use SBDs as our own currency between members in the Steeemit eco-stystem truly is. This adds tremendous value to the platform and makes Steemit very unique in having it's own fiat currency backed by something of real value, Steem.

Now off to grill some pork chops! :) Have a great night!

I actually usually use that method to defrost a lot of meats that I cook especially chicken. It's not the best but it gets the job done usually.

To make sure your steak is medium rare the next time, if you have an instant read thermometer, you can measure the doneness of your steak by the temperature in middle of the thickest part of the steak. If it's medium rare, it should be around 54-57 Celsius.
