Vlog #81: STEEMFAT: After 3 weeks of working hard I gained weight, lost muscle and added more fat. Hmmm....I need a change of plans.

in life •  7 years ago  (edited)

Today was a big day. The super measuring machine in the gym would determine how much muscle I have gained and how much fat I lost.

I was very pleased with my progress pictures so I was sure that I would get fantastic results.

Couldn't really hide my disappointment when the machine measuring lady told me I lost muscle (-2%), gained more fat and weight (+1 KG).

For a slight second, I was overcome by that feeling that you just want to give up.

But no way. I only have nine weeks left to do something about it.

Apparently, I have not been eating enough carbs and protein to maintain my muscles. Looking for energy my body started to eat them.

I don't understand how that works. I keep track of my exercises and have been improving every week on every exercise. I would have expected them to have grown.

But maybe I went a bit overboard on the diet.

STEEMFAT is a journey to get in shape. I'm just going to have to find a new direction. And I will find it.

Great to see you are always on your way to the gym. Even better that you didn't crash since that definitely wouldn't be a good start to the vlog haha. What had happened at the beginning?

The progress pictures looked so good. It seemed like you were losing weight and growing muscle not the opposite. Really weird since you already having better sleep and walking.

I guess carbs and protein are needed to maintain your muscles as well as to prevent your body breaking down your muscle for energy.

It is unfortunate to hear and it is probably a huge hill you have to climb and get over when you realise things have gotten worse than better. At least you probably have been getting fitter.

Hopefully, this rage and anger makes you more motivated to work harder. Great to hear you so positive and driven rather than just giving up at this hurdle.

You can do it man for sure. Keep working your arse off and I bet it will pay off with this new advice and mindset @exyle! :)

A driver decided to stop out of nowhere to park :). Don't worry I'm more motivated than ever.

Yes! If you change your plans to 'lose muscle and gain weight', you'll have already succeeded! :D

Seriously though, well done for setting yourself a challenge and for sharing your experiences here. Had a similar feeling of falling at the first hurdle when I accidentally deleted my first post on here last week, but was glad I got back up and carried on.

So don't give up, and best of luck with your SteemFat journey!

LOL! that first line made me laugh!

Wow, that's quite an upvote! Thank you very much!

I like your mindset, It really isn't time to quit. Besides , I don't trust those machines ,surely they have room or margin of error. Hang in there , keep at it and increase your protein. The muscle will be back and hopefully more fat will be incinerated :) Wishing you all the best.

Mindset is everything. Maybe your right and it's better to trust my eyes and photos.

That was a shocker for me too after seeing yesterday post i thought you lost weight but some strange thing happened :O
but yeah don't disappoint keep going on :D
and at last Mc donalds at last hahahah

Thank you! And no Mcdonald!

No need to be disappointed, you look awesome!!!!! therefore be proud of yourself .
You can add water therapy to your program as its very helpful. You are a big success here and therefore you have to celebrate yourself ...

Thank you so much!

You are welcome bud, always...and more success to you.

I wouldn't worry about too much right now. The results will come in time. I would just concentrate your diet on eating sufficient whole grain carbs like brown rice and lean meat so you have a higher chance of sustaining your muscle gains. Also, try eating a workout snack like a protein shake or small glass of chocolate milk after you are done exercising. It actually helps a lot in muscle recovery and growth.

keep at it!!

Increase your veg and protein. Make sure you include complex carbs in your diet (reduce simple carbs)

You've got this!!

On method to reduce salt and sugar is to replace those flavour profiles with smoke.

Thanks for the cheering up! I got this :)

@exyle might expect a list of gym exercises that help you lose belly fat to include lots of crunches, twists and planks. While these moves do help create strength and definition in abdominal muscles, they do little to burn the fat covering your middle. Gym exercises that help you lose belly fat involve cardio and total-body strength training — not targeted ab moves.

Never give up !! the progress is never linear there are always ups and downs, so do not get angry, sure that the next week you feel the changes

Don't worry @exyle sir, just start now by recommitting today, drink water like it's your job, plan each meal, revisit your food journal and repeat a good week, remind yourself how far you have come, Move get you sweat on, vegetables are your friend, repeat it tomorrow. i hope you will see great results soon.

It's a journey that's for sure. It's finding that balance that is important.

nice ur muscles are fantastic still to lost -2% but i hope u get back it soon and iprove more go on a perfect man and enjoy all dishes and live in happy mood sir...cheeers

What had worked for me is slogging it out in the hot humid weather. Best way to lose fat.

I'm no expert at working out and nutrition but from my experiences and from your previous blogs, this is what I guess has happened. You may be eating healthy but still more in quantity For example, if you need 3200 calories (loosely based on your height and weight) a day to maintain your body's composition (weight, fat, muscle etc) and if you want to lose weight (may or may not be fat), you would have to eat 3000 calories a day (calorific deficit)
When people start working out regularly they overeat even the good stuff which is bad if you're trying to lose weight. There may be other reasons, but this is the most common I've seen.
PS: Don't pay too much attention to the numbers, at the end of the the day, its how you feel!

It's already been 3 weeks. Time flies. 3 weeks is really too short to see massive results, it's a lifestyle you have to keep up everyday. Results will come, it's only a matter of time. Keep it up Exyle!

Thanks, man!

What exactly is your real weight? Nice post though! Upvote given

115KG

I weighed 75kg. I'm Mich lighter than you lol

@exyle,
Don't be disappointed. We know you have an amazing improvement. Just try your best!

Cheers Dude~

hahahha ohhh no @exyle sir its not good u lost muslcles and gain weight u go on wrong way but i think u only will need some weeks and u get back ur musclee and all fitness only keep on regularly and leave ur roast and others fast foods and keep ur diet plan only for 1 or 2 months and i hope u get amaizing result sir a

thank you!

Hi, did you hear about a diet based on our blood type? 1 specific diet is not working for all people. Every individual needs his own diet, optimal for him. If you are interested you can google your blood type and diet based on that type! I can eat a lot of food that is optimal for my type and i don't gain any fat. But if i eat some food inappropriet for my type, even if it's considered healthy, i gain some fat :)

Being a teenager, I am probably not a useful adviser on this. I do most of my exercise with a large rock near my house. That and playing soccer :D

I guess you should follow the advice and eat more of the protein?

Just out of curiousity, did you NOT use any protein shakes after workout ? Cause if you skimped on those, then it makes sense you lost muscle sorta .... since you're on regime diet, you're body will eat away on muscle for energy, and the musclebuilding you do will have no protein to fix the torn tissue to grow muscletissue back .... You still LOOK better & fitter though ...

Shakes twice a day!

most important in lose weight is to eat much less and dietic and need time, its like result in 3 months, you work today and result in 3 month, so dont discourage because of 3 weeks.

Ups and down are the part of the life. Loosing 2% muscle is not ay big issue I think but you have found it and started correcting you diet and exercise regime is the best thing to do. I love this attitude, You are doing a great a job for becoming a role model here on steemit. Steemfest2 is gonna be really amazing by the presence of people like you, I really wish I could be a part of it.

Man, really, it's all about healthy eating, proper sleeping and a good program in the gym. There are tonnes of literature about it, but my best advice would be go to https://www.bodybuilding.com/ , find a proper plan for working out , do the same with diet , read a forum and follow it . Result is granted .

DON'T give up.

You have put too much hard work in so far to give up. It will just be a weird glitch or blip or your body doing something weird.

Keep going, you're doing a great job.

Loosing weight is a tough on going job. Something that my doctor told me years ago and is not magic but a help. She said I should have a tea made of 1 T. apple cider vinegar containing the mother in a cup of water every day which helps control weight as well as acid-alkaline levels in the body. Also she said not to eat fat free items. She said a bit of fat actually helps you to loose. This seems to help and once you get near the desired weight it is though you are maintaining while loosing without noticing so much every bite you take.

Forget about that "super"measuring machine. Watch your progress pictures and think of the shape your in and how you feel now.
In your vlog 68 I recommended you some food and exercise tips, and also how to speed up your metabolism.
I GARANTEE you, if you follow the things I wrote there you will lose weight and (later on) gain more muscles. And you get so to say "dryer".
Don't give up now ... It requires discipline to reach your goals, but if you'll stick to that, you'll get results. Good Luck

  ·  7 years ago (edited)

I feel great and the pictures look good to me. I went back and read it again. I'm already starting to eat more often but less. (dinner I still find hard). I will reach my goals, I'm not a quitter.

That's the spirit 👍

I'm more than a little shocked the machine said that. From looking at the pictures it absolutely looks like you've lost some fat and put on some muscle as your body composition has absolutely changed. Oh well, I know you'll get it done.

Love the attitude and drive man. The never quit mind frame. I have no doubt you'll achieve your fitness goals. Now we just need you to start preparing to take up your next project, Steemit Witness!! You have my vote already. The ideas, knowledge and vision for Steemit you would bring would be invaluable. So, what say you?? :)

Love your determined attitude! Our bodies can be frustrating, cant they? But don't be discouraged. May I ask what kind of training/exercises that you perform? Is it primarily cardio? Do you include strength training? If so, a bit of weight gain can occur if you are new to strength training. Keep working hard, and results will follow! Also, if you have noticed improvements in how you look, feel and the way that your clothes fit, those are good indicators of change in the right direction. However, if you feel that you need to tweak your diet and routine, definitely do so. Am cheering you on and will keep following you!

Oo what can a person say to this ..... go to a specialist they might help you towards your goals :D

great post . i like this video . thank you . အားက်တယ္ဗ်ာ steem power ေတြ အမ်ားႀကီးပဲ i try is the best . i am original content writing .

Such a result only encourages us to continue and even more focused. It may be more efficient and enjoyable to practice exercises in something that you enjoy doing, for example I do Calisthenics / Workout and Jiu-jitsu. Different stimuli, cause better results and without suffering when facing the scales. I hope I have helped with the tip, good luck in the results.

You are doing a great work. Those machine aren't very good. The best thing you can do is to keep taking pictures of yourself and compare them. Keep up the work

@exyle Hi Mark, we all have failures and disappointments, my brother. Of all the paintings I attempt about 40% end up in the garbage can. Of the 60% that make the cut, I really only like about half of those. The thing is to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get back in there and try again. You'll make it!

Great post

I really enjoyed your post, thank you for sharing with us. Enjoy the vote!

And it always happens during training. First, muscles grow and fat is lost. And then this process stops for a while. This means you need to either strengthen your workouts, or change your diet a little.

Or do not worry, and maintain the current weight.

yes proteines are very important when you exercise so your msucled dont get eaten! hanfg in there!

Nice post thanks for sharing

It's a marathon, not a sprint. It's normal for some body types to "get fatter" at first as your metabolism adjusts.

Muscles man ,look good in first photo

i upvote plx upvote my post

Body is so cool good
