WHY VINCE CABLE IS RIGHT IN PUSHING FOR THE LEGISLATION OF CANNABIS IN THE UK

Legalising cannabis has been a hotly debated topic here in the UK. There are many who support the legalisation of weed, while there are also a group of people who strongly oppose making cannabis legal in the UK. Vince Cable the newly elected leader of the Liberal Democrat Party, has stated this week, that he plans to push ahead with the Lib Dems goal to legalise cannabis.

Here are the top 5 reasons I support this Lib Dem Policy and why I think Vince Cable is right for pushing this forward.

1. Cannabis Is Much Safer Than Alcohol and Tobacco

Cannabis has been proven, many times, to be much safer than alcohol and tobacco. 3.3 million people die each year from alcohol-related causes and 7 million people die each year from tobacco related illnesses and diseases. There have been no reported deaths linked directly to cannabis, even in cases where people have died of other causes and cannabis has been found in the system, it can still be considered much safer than alcohol or tobacco.

2. Cannabis Can Help With a Wide Range of Health Conditions

Cannabis has been proven to have a wide range of health benefits. It has been shown to help people with insomnia, depression, chronic pain, cancer pain and a wide variety of other conditions. The psychoactive component in cannabis (THC) can be removed leaving the (CBD) which also has proven to help with conditions such as dementia, Parkinsons, epilepsy and other conditions. When compared to any other recreational drug, none can come close to cannabis, the wide range of health benefits can not be denied.

3. Legalising Weed in the UK Will Help Generate The Government Revenue

Legalising cannabis would help save Britain billions. Not only would it save the country money but it would generate so much money in tax and give our economy a huge boost.

4. Legalising Cannabis Would Generate Thousands of New Jobs

If cannabis were legalised in the UK, it is thought that it will generate thousands of new jobs. The industry will be worth billions and as such a lot of workers for a wide variety of positions would be needed. Nobody can deny that more jobs are a good thing, fewer people unemployed would really help our economy.

5. Legalising Cannabis Would Free up Police Time

So many people are convicted for crimes relating to Cannabis in the UK. It wouldn’t just free up the time for our police force, to deal with more important issues, but it would also free up our courts and prisons. If we stop criminalising weed and the people who take it, then this will inevitably improve the society we live in.

As a closing note, I think Vince Cable is making the right decision here. I think it’s an important topic and worth working towards. Several other countries have decriminalised cannabis and have had success by doing so. Crimes rates in those countries have gone down and the economy has improved. It’s time the UK got on board and made weed legal. After all, even if we don’t legalise cannabis, people are still going to take it anyway. The benefits for legalising way outweigh the negatives.
