As I write this, I remember a famous quote by Epictetus,
He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.
Elaborating the quote, means, one must always be grateful for the things he has in life rather than complaining about what he does not have. A life of gratitude is a more blissful and happy life. Being grateful for the blessings we have boosts our self-esteem, gives us inner strength, helps us to live with positivity, confidence, enthusiasm, and stability. Gratitude teaches us to see problems as opportunities and handle them gracefully each time they knock our door.
What Does It Mean To Live With Gratitude?
To live with gratitude and appreciation in your heart every single day means finding joy in the smallest of things, counting your blessings, recognizing everything around is positive. Living with gratitude means gracefully accepting whatever life brings in your way - no matter good or bad.
Living with gratitude means to be thankful for the blessings in life as well as for the disappointments. It is because the problems that come in our life is also to teach us many lessons and to encourage us to move ahead for better in life.
Why Living A Life Of Gratitude Can Make You Happy?
1. Gratitude helps to calm the craving for more
Each time we human beings get something, we crave for more, more cars, more bungalows, more smartphones, more assets, and everything more. And this urge for getting more constantly takes away our peace of mind and makes us restless.
However, feeling grateful for what we already have can help us to a great extent to calm our urge to accumulating more. When we count on the blessings in life, we find that we have a lot more than many other people in the world do not have. When we feel thankful, we find that we are blessed more than that we think, the problems in life we can handle gracefully, and we can work hard and get what we do not have in life.
2. Gratitude helps us to see others
When we do not have an urge to accumulate more, we can easily fight against the battle of being self-obsessed. We see a world outside of ourselves and can make a more social connection. We make an elongated connection with our children, our community, our parents, spouses, neighbor, and children.
Living a life of gratitude helps us to step outside of ourselves and enable us to reach out to other people(our friends, family, colleagues, loved ones). We get the meaning of life and grow in maturity. We get to know our hearts deeply, learn the joy of giving, art of forgiving. We embrace whatever comes in our way of life and are always grateful for what we have. Ultimately, it leads us to the kindest hearts ever!
