"Lou Holtz," said it very right,

"It's not the load that breaks you down, it's the way you carry it."

Stress, no doubt, is quite common in this modern era. Every single individual is worried, about some, or the other thing. But just because stress is ordinary, it can't be concluded that it is good. No, it is not. One must realize that life is a series of ups and downs, and no matter how hard we try we cannot control everything in life. One heart must break before another can mend, one chapter must close before you move to another, and that's the way it all goes. That's the only way you must look at things without letting it break you. And that's the way to a happy, stable, positive, and successful life.

However, you must not ignore stress completely. Stress is integral slightly to make you perform better in life and bring stability to your day to day functioning. The thing is you must know the art of handling stress gracefully and not take it on high levels. Taking extreme stress will shatter you down and take away all your peace of mind.

Are you stressed? If yes, are you struggling with how to deal with it? Only a few people master the art of handling stress gracefully. Know here the simple ways to minimize stress and to live a life less stressful:

1. Read books

Only by opening a book, you get into a literary world that completely distracts you from the daily stressors. It is a proven fact that reading reduces stress to a great extent. Many of us take this simple act for granted, but we must not. Reading can even relax our body by easing the tension in our muscles and lowering our heart rate.

However, you have to be a little particular when searching for what to read. Reading reduces stress only when you pick up something to read that won’t upset you. Pick up a magazine or a book that piques your interest – cookbook, gardening magazines, or even a romantic paperback. Set aside 30 minutes every day to read in a quiet place where there is no one to disturb you.

Here are a few tips that'll help you get started -

A. Pick up something that won't upset you

If you feel helpless or angry, reading the news is not a good option. Instead, pick up a novel which can allow you to escape into another world. Or pick up a book on an activity that you love to enjoy - cooking, traveling, or any other hobby.

B. It's not integral that the book you choose must be on the "best sellers list"

The book you choose to read does not have to be on the best sellers list. The subject matter of the book must capture your interest. It must provide space to your mind and relax it down so that you can stably continue with further activities.

C. Write down how you feel after you read a book

After reading a book of your interest, ask yourself questions like, "Do I succeeded in letting go of my stress?", "Am I feeling better than before?", and "Am I able to overcome my anxiety?" You'll, no doubt, get optimistic answers.

2. Get Creative

Creativity reduces stress, depression, and anxiety. It can help you come out of trauma. It can help you heal and move ahead for better in life. According to some studies, indulging in some creative activities like writing, reading, drawing, painting, playing music, sketching, doing pottery, interior design, building things, can help people relieve stress, productively manage their negative emotions, and also help them express experiences and trauma that are difficult to put to words.

So, whenever it is that you feel stressed in life, you must indulge yourself into some creative activities of your interest. You'll see improvements in your state of mind in very less time. Getting creative gives you a distinct vision to look at things and being positive at whatever happens in life. It sets new horizons for you, broadens life vision, and change it for good.

3. Simplify Your Finances

Finances can be an extreme stressor and a drain on your energy. If that’s true with you, check out ways to simplify things. Spend less, but save more. Look for schemes to invest your money. Spend less on shopping(online or offline). Look for ways where you can have fun without the involvement of spending more money. And, it’s when you’ll find yourself financially stable, you’ll gain control over your life, and live a little less stressful life.

4. Be Around People Who Make You Feel Good

Positive people have a distinct aura, and the effect they can put on your life is indescribable. You must always surround yourself with people who are positive and who make you feel good. Many studies reveal that the company of family, good friends, communities, organizations, is the most integral preventive approach. Surround yourself with people who soothe your worries, relieve your stress, help you stay calm, and consistently encourage you to move ahead in life.

5. Do Something Calming

What is the thing that calms you down and makes you relax? For some people it can be reading, writing, painting, drawing, for some it can be playing guitar, listening to music, hanging out with friends, while for some it can be taking a nap or bath. Some people get pampered by yardwork or housework. Also, some people like to walk in the morning evening while some love to meditate. Explore your calming activity and do it everyday to relax your mind and soothe your worries.

Thank you! :)

Completely agree with the finances...once i got mine in order it was a huge weight off my shoulders. Allowed me to focus on other areas of my life more effectively.

Yes, saving finances bring our life in order! Once we set that, we indeed can focus on other areas of life.

Great article. Hope you will be active on steem.

Thanks a ton! And yes, I sure will!

Nice article, very inspiring content. Many people need to understand that stress is often not a result of external circumstances, but rather a question of consciousness. How do I deal with overstraining situations, am I solution-oriented or do I waste my time complaining about everything negative? This is exactly what many people have to deal with self-critically.

Yes, you get it right! People need to understand it's all inside. We must have firm control over our minds and soul. If we control ourselves, we then can control anything!
