How would you categorize yourself, optimist or pessimist? How do you see the cup, half full or half empty? Either way , this have a big impact on your well-being and health.
First, based on studies, I will post few disadvantages for being pessimist :
-shorter survival-rate ;
-higher daily blood pressure which can lead to stroke or heart disease;
-prone to increased depression and anxiety.
Now, let's see what happens to optimists:
-report less health issues than pessimists;
-recover faster from being sick or undergoing serious surgeries ;
-if optimistic while pregnant, new moms are less likely to suffer from post-partum depression.
-they feel better about their physical and emotional health;
Do you think pessimism is a trait you've been born with, or you can change? If you are not optimist already, make this your goal, it's really worth striving for. Some studies are saying that pessimism is just a mental habit , and since pessimism is learned, it can also be unlearned. The developer of positive psychology ,Martin Seligman Ph. D, said that learned optimism means learning to expect occasional difficulties, bad days, but to not let them color your whole view of life or attitude toward yourself.
Good luck accomplishing your goal!!
