What Can You Buy For A Dollar

I saw a Steemit article the other day about this theme, what can you buy for a dollar in your country, so I am going to write about some things you can buy for a dollar in Honduras. Now please take into account that I live in La Ceiba which is the fourth or fifth largest city in Honduras and is a little more expensive than San Pedro Sula or Tegucigalpa, at least in what relates to food you can buy on the streets or markets.

First of all this theme was supposed to be about what you could buy with one SBD but since the price of this pegged to the dollar coin has been fluctuating so much, in fact the only price I haven't seen it at is exactly $1.00 I will use the easier $US1.00 for this article.

Talking about SBD I think when they thought of using a coin pegged to the dollar the devs didn't realize all the variables involved in keeping that peg, I don't know if it is worth all the trouble they have been going through to just try to reach parity and never quite making it, because I bet you, if Steem goes up, SBD will follow it closely, and then they will have to come up with new ideas to keep the peg, a complete waste of time and resources. Probably they shouldn't have even created SBD.

Anyway back to the theme, first of all you can buy a beer with less than one dollar, at the cheaper places you can get a local beer for about $0.80, this leaves you with $0.20, good for a half liter plastic bag of water for next day's hangover, which you will probably have from only drinking that one beer with no food.

Thinking about it, they do sell an even cheaper beer, "Prima" which is supposed to be Portuguese, I have no idea how an imported European beer can be cheaper than local beer, probably "Prima" isn't really Portuguese.

But you would rather eat than drink a beer, well you can buy a baleada for, again about $0.80 plus again you can buy a bag of water. What is a baleada? It's just a flour tortilla with fried beans, grated cheese, and since you are paying $0.80 in some places you can add egg or avocado or maybe ground meat, in fact you can buy two baleadas with one dollar with only beans and grated cheese, you won't have enough for water though, you could still drink some local non purified water.

Then you can also buy these bagged snacks, which are manly fried tortilla chips with seasoning or fried plantains or bananas, or puffed cheese balls, you can probably buy 8 small bags which are more air than food, plus the bag of water, of course there are larger bags also. I think buying the baleada is a better choice, more filling and satisfying.

You can also but two soft drinks with a dollar, that way you avoid drinking local water, even though I can't guarantee that they do use purified water in making soft drinks like Coca Cola, Pepsi etc., but I have never heard anyone complain about stomach problems because of drinking them.

You can't buy a meal in Honduras for US$1.00, for a full meal, breakfast or lunch at the cheaper places you need nearly $2.00, it is logical, the minimum wage here is around $11.00 per day (of course only the bigger companies pay this, other employers short change their workers) so as the minimum wage is always, at least in Honduras, always not enough to fulfill a person's needs, it comes to reason that anyone would need at least that amount to make it through the day.

So I guess you can find a lot of countries where you can live for less than you can in Honduras, not in Central America though, I think prices are similar all over the region, in fact I have been to Guatemala and Costa Rica and found them more expensive than Honduras, of course when I went there I was on company expenses so I ate at rather better than average places.

So I don't really think you can make it in Honduras with only one dollar pegged SBD, you have to either write a lot of articles or get more upvotes, because if not you will definitely go hungry around here, especially if you go to the Bay Islands where life is much more expensive.

Interesting! I don't think I can get much with US$1 in Singapore as well. I should check out the supermarket and write a post on this too. Haha..

I guess Singapore is more expensive than Honduras.

lovely

Interesting set you can buy for a dollar in different countries! You can get more than we can in Europe!

Sure, I guess in every country, if you are a salaried worker, your income depends on what you can buy with it.
