Super Yummy Jackfruit Kheer # Food

in life •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hi Friends... Hope you all have tasted Jackfruit, which normally everyone likes! Today here I am with a recipe for a Kheer made using mainly Jackfruit!

image

This is a Konkani recipe, a treditional dish, I used to eat in my childhood, and we call it 'Gharai'.

At first, take 8 to 10 jackfruit bulbs, remove the seed, clean and cut into small square pieces, like this.

Now we need these things.

Jaggery 150 grams
Cardamoms-4 or 5 and cloves 2.
Cashew nuts 6 to 8
Dry grapes..
Coconut milk or powder.
Samolina - one table spoon.

Method for preparation...
Take a pan and pour one cup of water, add jaggery (powder the jaggery), and let it start boiling. Now add Jackfruit pieces and boil for 2minutes, till the pieces are cooked.

Add cardamom and cloves powder, coconut milk and let it starts boiling again. Now slowly add one table spoon full of Samolina (white Rava) little by little, and keep stirring on low flame till it comes to boiling again and that's it!!!Switch off the flame and garnish with Cashew nuts and dry grapes...

The Super yummy Jackfruit Kheer is ready to eat!! :) :)
And today it really turned out Super - Yummy!!

It is very easy to make this and can be done in just ten minutes!!

It can be served chilled also, after keeping it in the refrigerator for half an hour.

If you get this fruit in your place, then please try it and enjoy this weekend.....

Here in Mangalore, we get lot of jackfruit (though the price is high now!), and we make lots of delicious foods using this fruit as the main ingredient. If you are interested, I can share the recipes here in my future blogs... :)

See you soon with much more interesting post...

Wishing you all a great day... With much love and regards, @geetharao...

Wow! Jackfruit is my favorite tropical fruit!!! It’s so yummy and so sweet!

I am telling this to my mom and she's like"I never heard of kheer made of kathal" as she makes only sabjee
You always show your recipes with a bang.
Now am pestering my mum to make this :)

Hi @devasish... Do you call jackfruit by name Kathal in Assamese??

Yes :)

Wow! it looks so yummy that I want to have it now. I will share it with mom n request her to prepare it for me. Thanks for sharing.

And...@tamsguitar... if you don't have ready coconut milk at home, then you can ask your mom, to grind a hand full of fresh coconut(not the dried one), along with cardamon in the mixie to a fine paste and add this directly to the Kheer.... :)

Wow! This seems a mouthwatering dish. In North India, we use jackfruit as a vegetable but in southern part of our country it is also relished as a fruit. This also shows the diversity of India.

This recipe is completely new for me. Never tried as jackfruit is not very common at our place. But by seeing ingredients used and finished product I can say it must be a delicious dish. Thanks for introducing this new recipe.

Hi Sir @chetanpadliya... Yes, this is a Treditional dish, very tasty one..., mostly an item in the menu of rich weddings here...

Very simple and easy recipes of jackfruit kheer. Look very tasty and may be useful for diabetic patient also as there is no extra sugar you added . Thank you for sharing..

I have tried so many varieties of rice kheer. This one looks unique. I will definitely will give try. Thanks for sharing recipe.

I appreciated your foody post

I love to eat kheer and here's the amazing recipe with jackfruit. Definately trying it. Helpful post liked it friend @geetharao.

South Indian cuisine always appeals to my tastebuds. Most of these recipes are very delicious and vegan by default. I don't know any other culture where we have so many vegan dishes traditionally.

I never got a chance to taste this jackfruit kheer. However, I am delighted to see the existence of traditional vegan sweets. I love sweets a lot but in my place, I rarely come across vegan sweets.

Thank you for this dish! Althogh I don't prepare sweet dishes for myself, I'd be glad if you will share its detailed recipe. Hope someone here must have already requested it to you by now.

Hi @xyzashu... Here this Jackfruit Kheer is very easy to make. If we have coconut milk handy at home, then this can be prepared in just ten minutes. I've already given the recipe in detail here. If you can't get jackfruit, then same one can be tried with Sweet Potato.
Steem boil the sweet potatoes, remove the outer skin, cut into cubes. Then follow same method given in this post... :)

We make different dishes using Mangoes too. Will share it here...

Oh my... how did I miss the recipe! Perhaps, I just kept looking at the photos. Yes, this recipe seems very easy.

We don't get any vegan coconut milk powder in my city as yet. The Maggi milk powder isn't vegan and Jackfruit is something exotic for my city. Sweet potato season too has just finished. But not to worry, my mom prepared a very delicious almond milk kheer today. Slurrppp!!! 😊.

Hi @xyzashu.. Can you please share that Almond Kheer recipe on steemit platform??

Well, I ain't too much into cooking. But it's just a simple kheer using almond milk instead of dairy. Chetan has made a short video for it. Hope you would like to watch it:

Hi @xyzashu... Thank you so much. Actually I didn't even had the idea so far, how to make this almond milk!! Will do and use it for all types of Kheers in future. :)

Jackfruit Kheer is manglore special thanks a lot @geetharao.
