It's really surprising how often we are always resisting life. If you take a quick assessment of your body right now, you'd probably discover some kind of stress, tension or tightness. For me, it’s usually my eyes, I mean, I look into the computer screen all day, and then my hands do the typing.
Where does all these tightness come from? We are struggling against something, we become frustrated by something, irritated by someperson, stressed out or overwhelmed by all the things we have got to do. We just do not like whatever it is we have become faced with. This is what causes a resistance; a tightening. Virtually everyone does it, most of the times. It’s perfectly normal, but then it brings about unhappiness, a clear aversion to the present moment, constant struggling with other people or even ourselves, constant struggles with the task that's pikes up for us. Over time, I have discovered something which I consider useful and this is the idea of relaxing into the moment.
Quickly try these out:
Take note of where exactly the tension lies in your body at this moment
Take note of what you it is that you are tightening against, It just might be someone or something
Now relax the tightness -- now allow yourself to melt away
Approach the same situation, but this time with a more relaxed and friendly attitude
You can repeat these as often as you can remember, throughout the day. Just remember to fix in and use the phrase relax into the moment. This would just help us to face the day squarely with little or no tension and ultimately greater contentment. We would struggle less with the way other persons are, and rather than doing that, we would open up our hearts to them and be able to see, that they just like us, are also constantly struggling and also desire to be happy.
We might approach a task with less resistance, and instead carry on with a smile. We just might notice the physical space which is around us and thus, begin to appreciate it for the unique gift that it is. In the end, we would be changing our mode of being from that of struggle and resistance to that of peace and gratitude.
