How Does the Sea Make You Feel?

I love the sea, I love being near it. The sea is wild and free, with multiple personalities depending on the day, the weather and the moon.

It got me thinking that I've never written a poem about the sea, so one day whilst waiting for the train, I grabbed my pen and this poem ebbed out of my head.

The sea reflects my soul
Turbulent, emotional but whole
The waves that crash around
The most relaxing sound.

The calm exterior is a facade
Controlled, emotions are barred.
Hidden confidence, hidden power
The beach is not a place to flower

Strength beneath the serene
Always bubbling, not always seen
Great things are on the tide
And I am enjoying the ride

The moon gives me my fuel
My time, my life to rule
When I'm done being humane,
My energy goes to the waves again

Forever to crash and pound
Forever to be bound
Twirled and swirled
In the beauty of this world

The beach near where we live is a stony beach and every time we go, we end up a with a few 'must have" pebbles to go home with. I like to look out for the ones that have holes all the way through. It is incredible to think of the power the ocean has to be able to do this. One of our favourite activities is run away from the water and try not to get our feet wet, or water in our wellies, which we inevitably do.

But our latest fun times at the beach include rockpooling and trying not to slip and fall on our asses! Although it is only funny when I do it, apparently.

It is great to have a family of water babies, we all love water in all its forms: the sea, baths, showers, swimming pools, waterfalls, and lakes.

Beautiful... Your words speak to me.

I have never seen the sea though.
I have never lathered my feet
With her salty foam or dance
The tides with the moon's tugging dream.
I have never watched her birth the shore
With crabs, conch shells and bottled letters,
I have never seen the sea.

In between pages, the sea lies.
This sea I know very well;
Raging against barren cliffs,
Tossing rigs and sails against reefs,
Bashing the jagged teeth of stubborn rocks
With salt and the eager surf.
She lies between pages, this sea.

She strides about the ankles,
Cowries and starfishes;
She cradles my heart beneath her dark depths;
Olokun, Mother of deep things;
My muse, my inspiration.
But I have never seen the sea.

My people have a saying.

If you thank the one who makes good food, he'll make another.

You've made good food. Thank you.
You've also made a new follower.

Keep it up.

Thank you @yvonn. This means a lot to me. You won't ever be hungry for good food (lovely proverb by the way) as long as I have fingers and keys and a brain to inspire. Peace

It is an amazing poem too.

Thank you ma'am.

I came here by reference from your other post and I admire your letter. You have the talent to write beautiful and meaningful poems.
The sea at that moment was your muse and gave you the inspiration to write a beautiful poem.
The sea for me is than a soothing and inviting place. Although I live far from the sea, therefore, it is a good tradition for me to visit there every year.
Thank you

Thank you. I like to write poetry - when I have an idea it tends to just flow out in one sitting.

How does the sea make me feel? Well, I've never had an experience with any sea. Your question for me should have been, how do gardens make you feel?

close my eyes;
breathe in, breathe out;
lose awareness of my surrounding;
get lost in thoughts.

Wow sitting in that garden would be awesome.

Nice poem. The ocean is my soother. I agree that there is a lot of hidden power behind the calmness. I've been there when it was calm and I've been there when the waves were beating me up.

nice description

Awww, my sister and I are water babies too! We love kicking water and letting the sea water soothes our legs during sunset. Is collecting pebbles one of your favourite when u are small? hehe, if so, u must have already collected lots of pebbles.
Im not really an art person, but your poems is very beautiful!

Yes, it seems like we have a beach worth at pebbles at home already

Very beautiful. I live near the beach in Acapulco and almost got pulled out to sea by the riptide when swimming too far from the shore. I'm lucky the ocean spit me back out after wading in its dripping jaws.

The sea is dangerous but beautiful at the same time. I think I feel an extra verse coming on.

You'll have to share rocks with holes straight through them. Hard to imagine the sea could do that, as powerful as it is.

Ah the sea makes for great poetry.

The poem is very beautiful. Sea is the eternity for me. The waves are the difficulties of life.

💗

The waves are difficulties of life

The waves are the difficulties of life.

in that case, we can leave them at the shore :)

Lovely piece. Glad you shared

Beautiful poetry!
I also love the sea, tho I can't swim

Lol... Me too 😂😂😂

A paddle is just as good.

It is a nice poem. Sometimes when you are thinking about something that you really like, the words just flow out of you. That seems to be what happened here while you were thinking about the sea.

Yes, once I get an idea the rest seems to just come out in a rush afterwards.

The sea and nature for that matter gives off a harmonious energy I find. That is why it feels so amazing to be around the beautiful natural world. Great share here @hopehuggs! Beautiful girls! :)

Love the natural world.

Gentle and peaceful to the mind.... I like this piece!

Very good!

Thank you

Wow so beautiful poem that was i love it :)

Wow!!! This is awesome....your words are perfect and tou are such a good poet....to me

The sea is nothing but nature
Which is part of God's creature
Buts so different from the vulture
In its uniqueness and culture...gracias@hopehugs

I'm not a poet...not a good one at least. And I've never seen the sea, but I hope to someday.
I feel our first meeting would be both scary and awesome.
Sometimes it's hard to imagine that water could be so beautiful and angry at the same time-like a jilted lover.

Thanks @hopehuggs

like a jilted lover.

That's pretty poetic.

Thank you, maybe I have a chance then.

I believe everyone has at least a little poetry in their soul.

it was wonderful to read the poem you wrote wow that's was excellent

so beautiful and serene wonderful poem

This is very well written Helen! No doubt, you're becoming an inspiration to me when it comes to poetry. This is my favorite so far.

this touched my heart literally amazing poem

Beautiful poem! I'd like to remind on bruce lee in the video when he said you can be like water, flow between the rocks or crush in them...

The sea poem: that's so true. Great job. It's beautiful, mystical and powerful. We don't have the sea here but we have the lovely River Mersey. I feel so lucky to be near it. My favourite sea is stormy, angry and dangerous. So much energy you wanna get close, but know it'll be the end of you if you get too near.

Haha. Kids love a great pratfall, especially if you get your arse wet. They look like they're having fun.

The first thing I did was visualize the scene as I read the poem. I took in the scene, the sounds, the smells. It's cool that you were inspired like that in that moment.

About the sea. I am not a fan of large bodies of water. They are very eerie to me. It's the vastness and the darkness of it that gets to me. However my wife loves the water so much.

I'm glad that my poem could speak in that way. My mum is not a fan of water either.
