Self-control is the act of keeping our emotions in check and under control in all situations and all doings, be it mentally or physically. As humans, our emotions can be triggered at any point in time but we can get them under control with the help of our common sense and good decision making.

As a father or mother, we need to exercise self-control when disciplining our children. Children can be so annoying sometimes that it might trigger anger in us. Remember, there is a thin line between disciplining our children and abusing them. If a parent lacks self-control, they may end up physically or mentally abusing their children.

At the workplace and environs, we need to have self-control when people talk to us in a criticizing manner. Showing self-control when we are antagonized simply shows maturity in our path. The lack of self-control will compromise our good sense of judgement and will result in conflict with others which may also lead to regret.

Even when we are on our right, Exercising self-control is very vital. It doesn't mean that we are too weak or depriving ourselves of our right, it simply means we are sacrificing something so as to achieve a long-term relationship with others and have inner peace within yourself.
