How to Manage Stress Instead of Letting It Manage You

in life •  5 years ago

Stress is a part of our lives whether we are aware of it or no. A deadline that is too tight, a customer that is always in a bad mood or simply waiting for the bus and being afraid that you’ll be late for work are stress factors.
Even children feel stress nowadays up to a certain extent as they have to meet all sorts of expectations, prepare projects for all the objects, take extra-courses after school and also help parents at house chores.

We are so used to striving to meet expectations that we probably couldn’t adapt to a world that is less exigent and restrictive. While a certain amount of stress might be useful as it teaches you how to react in difficult situations and become better at what you do, constant stress is damaging both to your body and your mind.
There are countless tips and methods to tackling stress. I am not sure which one is better for you, but I am going to tell you which work for me.

Make Your Own Stress-Free Routine

No matter how unbearable your day is, it is always easier to go through it if you know that there’s something good waiting for you at the end. The cheapest and most comfortable treat that works for me is a nice meal and one (or maybe two 😊 ) glasses of wine in the evening.

Think Large Scale

Every tight situation seems a dead end, but if you come to think about it, this is never actually true. There is a solution to every problem, even if it doesn’t solve it completely. Think large scale and picture yourself one week or month or year from the critical moment you-re currently in. You’ll see that thing will settle, because this is only natural.
Also, stop thinking that your problems are worst than those of others. Global temperature is getting higher, there are less resources, people die of hunger in poor countries. Bottom line, there is always worse that what you’re going through.

Focus on the Positive Aspects in Your Life

If you can make a clear difference between the various relationships that govern your life, you’ll find it easier to deal with stress. So, you might be going through a difficult period at work, but if your love life is going great, you have just about enough reasons to wake up happy in the morning and gather your strength to overcome any obstacles.

Remember Brighter Times

Close your eyes and picture yourself in a nice place that gives you peace of mind. I know it sounds cheesy, but it works. The next time your boss pisses you off, just remember how happy you were last summer lying on the beach, instead of your office seat. Then, take a deep breath and get down to work again so that you can do the same next summer.

Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help

Many problems stem from the fact that we are too proud or embarrassed to ask for help. But there is nothing wrong with doing this if you feel overwhelmed. Why let the ship sink while you’re at the helm, when you can ask for someone to help you steer it in the right direction?

Stress is horrible and we can’t completely avoid it, but we can do many things about handling it better. What is your method of dealing with stress?
