Afternoon Vlog - Trying to stay positive during these depressing times..

How about simply ignoring the "news"?

I know this may sound very provocative, since consuming the "news" has become something like a religious duty for us citizens of democratic societies.

But aren't the media constantly pouring but fear and negativity upon us? Why don't they tell us any good news? There would be plenty, since life has never been that good for most humans as of today.

I grew up in Germany during the Cold War and we were kept in a constant fear of a Russian Invasion and subsequent nuclear holocaust. Until the Berlin wall crumbled in 1989, the Warsaw Pact dissolved and there was hope!

Incredibly sad to see how new fears of war are getting established by the media! However, I am optimistic, I firmly believe that the good will prevail on earth and thus I decided not to worry anymore.

Easier to do so, if you lock the bad news out. I have long chosen not to burden myself with things I can not change anyway.

So you're saying if we stick our head in the sand and pretend nothing is happening around us, things will get better?

You can always change things, it's just a matter of how far you're willing to go. You can write a letter to your representatives, you can call them, you can protest in front of their office, you can organize or join a march. There are many things you can do, but the question is how much do you care about a particular issue? The problem with our country is that we have become desensitized, we don't care about things as long as they don't happen in our back yard and don't affect us on a personal level.

It is not "sticking my head in the sand", but simply admitting that I can not do anything about yet another High School shooting in the USA. I do care about it, but it is completely out of my reach.

I suspect that the huge media coverage that these horrible events are getting may incentivize lost youths to imitate.

If one is made believe that the world is full of violence and despair, one may start hating one's life and lose all hope.

Hence my rant about media and bad news.
