"Love Conquers All" A story of Love turned Tragedy. Based on a life experience. (featuring @babybear as author)

A saying believed by many and scorned by some. They declare that in these trying times; love can make the impossible happen. Then again, pragmatics claim that love doesn't put food on the table nor ease the pain of a hungry stomach. Whatever they say, love definitely creates a place that the heart can always come home to. Even in the afterlife.

This story is based on my aunt's experience, on how she lost her husband(due to motorcycle accident). But not all written in this story is the same with my aunt. The only thing in common is the love and the tragedy. I just added a little twist to make it more interesting.

Married couple Daniel and Cecil didn't recite their vows, they spoke them from the heart. Theirs was indeed a marriage founded by love. Their greatest dream was to grow old together and have many children and grandchildren. They never thought of dying young nor pursuing life without the other. Thus they never discussed the possibility of death paying them a visit during the early years of their marriage

How wrong they were.
Daniel and Cecil rarely fought, but one night, Cecil started a long heated discussion with her husband. It was over a brand new motorcycle that Daniel bought.

"How many times did I tell you this, Daniel, you're putting yourself in danger when you ride a bike. You can't blame me for thinking like this. I've heard so much accidents regarding motorcycles that led to death."

Daniel knew how upset his wife was because she never used his name unless she was mad at him. They lovingly called each other "honey" and not their Christian names.

He sought to pacify her because it wouldn't do for her to become agitated when they were expecting their first child. He went to her and hugged her from behind because her back was turned towards him.

"I'm sorry, hon. I never tell you because I know you'll get mad at me and I will never gonna a chance to buy that bike. Please don't get mad at me."

Cecil remained silent for a few minutes but she was not immune to her husband's charm. "Well, you did this. Of course we can't send that back; you already bought it," she muttered without looking at her husband.

Daniel kissed the side of her neck. "I'm really sorry hon. Don't worry, I'm going to be really careful, " he promised.

"You better be!" She threatened then turned towards her husband's arms. "I don't want anything to happen to you. "Remember that I will be giving birth to our first child and you must be there."

He hugged her tight. "I promise, no matter what happens I'm not going to leave you."

And so Daniel went to work driving his motorcycle to avoid the traffic. Each morning before he left for work, he continously assured Cecil how careful he would be and that he would call her when he was on his way home. Because of it, Cecil's worries were lessened and she could go about her day without feeling agitated for her husband's safety.

One evening she felt unusually restless. Daniel should have called her an hour ago, she fretted. What could have happened to him? If and when he decide to do overtime work, he would call first and inform her about it because he knew that she would worry herself to death.

She paced around the living room. It had been one hour and seventeen minutes, and she still hadnt received a call from her husband. Her palms started to sweat as she grew more nervous. She was about to lift the receiver and call the office herself when it suddenly rang. She put her hand over her heart to still its pounding. After taking deep breaths she answered the phone.

"Hon? Sorry, I was delayed that's why I wasn't able to call you earlier."

It was Daniel, but there was something different about his voice. "It's okay, but honey, are you alright? You sound like you're not feeling well," Cecil asked, concern for her husband evident in her voice.

"You're always worrying," Daniel replied and Cecil was sure that he was smiling. Relief flooded through her veins. Her husband was not sick or anything, he was probably just tired.

"That's because I love you. Anyway just hurry home. I prepared your favorite dish," she invited.

"God, I'm so lucky to have you as my wife. If I weren't so stubborn... Alright, I'm coming home. Is Yaya(Nanny) with you?"

"Yes," Cecil answered with a frown. She couldn't miss the concern in her husband's voice; also he was making her feel confused.

"That's good. Tell her to stay with you always. Your condition is very delicate now that you're in your full-term. I want you and the baby to be healthy. Take care of yourself and our baby, alright?"

She nodded, and then remembered that he couldn't see her so she reaffirmed her answer softly. "Yes."

"I love you honey, I'll wait for you. Bye," he said and then the line went dead.

As Cecil returned the receiver to its place, she was suddenly beset with confusion. I'll wait for you... That's strange. She could be the one to wait and not him. While she was still trying to figure out what her husband had said, the phone rang again.

She thought that it was Daniel again but it was not. It was the police. "Hello Ma'am, are you the wife of Mr. Daniel Rua?"

Cecil had to swallow several times first before responding. "Yes, why officer?"

"I'm so sorry ma'am, but your husband was caught by an accident riding his motorcycle when he overtook a bus around 6PM. He didn't made it to the hospital. He's in the Medical City now."

She didn't know anymore what she said after that. All she remembered was that her Yaya rushed to her and took over.

Daniel was dead. Her husband would not be coming home. Then Cecil remembered something. Daniel had called her and said that he was coming home! But the officer said that the accident happened at around six in the evening and he had called almost two hours after that. If Daniel had died in the accident, then who called her awhile ago? It was Daniel, she was sure of it. But how could it be?

That night, when she went to bed she felt a presence beside her. Turning, she saw Daniel lying beside her. He was smiling at her. "I love you," he said. She was about to reply when his face turned into a lifeless visage; his face went deathly pale and his eyes was sightless, devoid of life. She screamed.

She woke up. It was a dream.
Cecil hugged herself and started to pray. Tears streamed down her face. Then she remembered her promise to Daniel about taking care of herself and their unborn child. Feeling depressed would not do her any good. Armed with the knowledge of her promise, she went to bed. Since that night, she swore that she always felt Daniel's presence beside her.

He truly kept his promise and came home to her.
