“Forgiveness means it finally becomes unimportant that you hit back.”— Anne Lamott

Forgiveness can be a very difficult lesson to learn, but I would have to say that definitely one of the most valuable lessons you can ever learn in life. Anger, bitterness and resentment can be useful short term in helping to "catapult" us forward during a difficult time, but at some point you need to let go of the negativity and start the process of forgiveness.

The reality is that If you don't eventually let go of the anger you are holding towards someone or something it will start to "eat at you" you from the inside out. You just cannot live a happy life if you are harboring such toxic levels of bitterness.

Personally, I learnt this lesson when going through my divorce. Being able to forgive what was done to me initially seemed completely unthinkable. I was so filled with hurt, anger and rage - but I had to learn how to let it go... none of those emotions help you to move on with your life and neither does taking revenge... it only leaves you filled with regret.

I eventually realised that despite how terribly I had been wronged, I had no choice but to learn how to start forgiving because the pain and the anger was killing me, therefore preventing me from actually living my life.

It was only once I accepted this reality that EVERYTHING in my world changed. These days, when I look at a person who has hurt me, I remind myself that they too must have endured many a hurtful challenge too that led them down their path eventually resulting in the person they have become. - just like me, they are imperfect.

Holding on to this perspective has truly helped me to exercise forgiveness in life and I hope it helps you too :)

WHAT IS HAPPY HIPPIE QUOTES ALL ABOUT...

People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily! – Zig Ziglar

I am a total sucker for anything motivational and/or inspirational, I often spend a good amount of time browsing quotes online to share with followers on various other platforms so I figured why not make it a daily habit here on Steemit too ;)

Despite the fact that I am a complete and utter tech junkie and I love so much about our modern world - (yes, there is a lot that I DON’T like as well… but keep up people… this is a happy hippy post), I have often considered the fact that I might have been born in the wrong era.

I have an insatiable love for anything 60’s!

So here I sit - in the 21st century, perhaps minus the bell bottoms but definitely not without the happy spirit, excessive array of colour (everywhere) and juuuuust a few gadgets to boot…he he!

Welcome to…

HAPPY HIPPIE QUOTES

Until next time...

Much Love from Cape Town, South Africa xxx

I had always wanted to forgive others for hurting me in my past, but it wasn't until two years ago that I finally learned how. I think that many want to but do not know how to go about leaving those feelings behind. For me I just started to watch myself closely at my thoughts and when they drifted towards those who hurt me, I would then shut the thoughts down and do something to make myself feel better. I often used word searches and Pintrest to distract me from dwelling in my thoughts until the thoughts just quit coming around. I have been able to mend relationships and have even an even better life than before all because I forgave. Ironically, some of the people in my life who hurt me in the past, I am closer than ever before to now.

And you have mastered the art of True forgiveness ❤

Shut my thoughts down. This is utter bullshit ( sorry for using that word ). The only time you can shut down thoughts is when you're dead or manage a create " A distance " from them during meditation. But the problem with that's it will collapse after some time. So you need to learn to " Focus on the work and ignore the distractions". Otherwise, your thoughts are on a constant rampage of their own. Why? Because you need to use them to do work. So you must learn to use the mind when you need to, ignore it when you don't need to use it, watch it when you're in meditation ( remember to only watch it and
" Don't " take part in it. ) The headspace videos on YouTube help a lot with this.

Nevertheless, shutting down thoughts isn't possible if you're alive. If you don't believe me then try not to think about chocolate for the next 10 seconds. Try really really hard to not think about chocolate. Remember you arean't supposed to think about chocolate. Then when you fail you'll know that shutting down your thoughts ain't possible.

Have a nice day.

this is so true. forgiving is the hardest thing to do but its esential for someone to grow.

when my dad died i was upset, sad and distraut but i was also angry, angry at him for not being that great of a father. but than one day i forgave him, and it all just faded away, the anger the bad memories the countless amount of times he jsut wasnt there for me growing up.
i mean i cried and cried and cried, but we were at peace with each other him and i now. i feel so much better, happier and i feel his spirit with me at all times watching and observing that i follow the correct path. and in his honour i keep drawing, he wants me to keep drawing and i love it
fogiveness is necessary and also very very hard.
i love you dad, my father my hero.

And so, through one of life's most challenging tragedies you learnt one of life's most valuable lessons. Xxx

Very nice...

thank you :)

I think that is what distinguishes us from animals, we have the ability to forgive.

I am, unfortunately, hold a grudge, unable to overcome it.
It's bigger than me

We all cross bridges at our own pace :)

Try to analyze it. Then solve it if possible. Otherwise, forgive and forget and move forward. You have a lot of life to be lived. Don't waste your time holding stupid grudges.

Have a nice day.

forgiveness makes you free from regrets...nice quotes ..thanks

Thank you very much :)

Knowledge is our future

and so is forgiveness :)

Good said

The version that stuck with me, "Forgiveness is learning to accept the apology you never received."
