Today one of my favorite managers, who had a baby last week, got demoted for missing time from work.

There are several different managers at my restaurant.

Each one of them actually has a slightly different position because there is a certain hierarchy in place.

There a couple of different ways to become a manager. You can either go to college and get a degree in business or you can work your way up through the system.

I'm always really impressed when a server or another type of employee becomes a manager.

About a year ago we had an extremely tall server that had originally come from another store and usually helped us out now and again.

Eventually that server became a manager. He is funny and super cool...... definitely one of my favorites.

He and his wife were are both extremely tall and fun to be around.

This manager told me several stories that his wife had a couple of miscarriages and was always worried about getting pregnant. She really wanted to have kids though but it seemed like her body wasn't working with her.

Nevertheless they continuef to try to get her pregnant because they both wanted children.

Eventually she did get pregnant and they were both really nervous about the child hoping that it would make it through the full term.

It did make it to the full term and they were both extremely excited...... as were we all.

The baby was born two weeks ago and weighed over 11 pounds.

That manager was able to take just a few days off when his baby was born. Our managers work about 70 hours a week so he was needed back at work right away.

The following week he was late for a couple of his shifts...... and on one particular Friday has alarm apparently didn't wake him up since he had been so sleep deprived.

He called work and apologized but I told him to just stay home and not worry about coming in that day.

Today the new schedule for the managers was released and we all found out that two of the managers were changing positions.

The lowest manager was moving up and the middle manager was moving down.

Since it's Christmas time and I really like the lowest manager as well it's pretty cool that he gets a promotion right around the holidays.

However, it's really crappy that they take this manager who has been trying for over a year to have a baby and finally finds success and demote him after having a couple of issues the very week after the child is born.

You might be thinking "Well maybe they've been having a lot of issues with this manager and they were able to use this as an excuse to demote him."

I really don't think that that is the case though.

I've seen managers that were in very good standing suddenly be fired because they got into an argument with the manager above them.

I've seen managers come and go more times than I can count.............probably over a hundred different managers in my 11 years at this restaurant.

This manager is a really great guy and he actually took the news pretty well.

I've noticed during the holidays some people are stingy and other people seem to just in a bad mood about everything.

It really blows my mind though that someone is willing to demote a great man that just had a child on account of the fact that he missed a little bit of work........ despite the fact that he's been a dynamo and a great guy from the time he started.

First of all, congratulations for them on having a child! That is wonderful news and worth of celebration without end (even though the end will probably come when they pass out from exhaustion due to midnight, 3:00, and 6:00 feedings :)).

As for the rest, that's unfortunate and frustrating. I hope it will be like @whatsup suggested, and that this is only temporary so he can have a bit more time at home.

Regardless, they really should have allowed a bit more time at home for him, especially if the powers-that-be have had kids of their own. They should really get it.

Anyway, from my family to his, pleas pass on our warmest wishes and congratulations. We wish them all the best and that they are able to get through this and be all the better for it.

That hurts. Does it mean less pay too?

Yep. He didn't get as much of a demotion in pay as you would have expected though.

That sounds so sad especially after Findley having a baby and at Christmas some managers can be very cold

I'd like to believe that my general manager didn't have anything to do with it and that it was all my district manager....... but that's probably not true.

In some ways it may be good for you to not know who it as

I feel the guy is so happy about his child that he took the news as a blessing. He gets to spend more time with his child I’m guessing. Or it just didn’t worry him too much since he’s a lot happier now. Overall it sucks and the leadership in that restaurant sounds crappy.

It seems like wherever you go....... the higher up in the chain you are the more of a jerk you end up being.

That is just a difficult thing from both points of view. If you are on the schedule and can't make it in for a couple of shifts that could cause a lot of problems for others.

Maybe they are just trying to take some pressure off for now and promote him back up when the time is right.

I am so happy they successfully brought their baby into the world. :) Cheers

Well you're right it is possible that they will give him his old position back soon. The only problem is that they promoted the guy beneath him...... and they can't exactly take that position away from him either unless they just want to be cruel........ I'm glad he's able to just be happy about the baby though. It's really a cool thing..... and a it's giant baby created from two extremely tall people.

wow amazing really nice I like this. tnx for share.

nice post

This is a test... @tippy
