I woke up at 8 am to a bright blue sky, untarnished by aircraft trails, it was wonderful. The past few days have been miserable and rainy but today was going to be dry and sunny, so we decided to head to back to Bellever Woods and the East Dart River.
It's a 30 minute drive from home, past Princetown (the highest settlement on Dartmoor, and one of the highest in the United Kingdom at around 1,430 feet (435 m)) and just before Postbridge (best known for its fine example of an 13th century clapper bridge over the river). A lovely spot.
I parked our car on the grass and we set our picnic blankets up pretty much exactly where the marker is on the map at the top of the post. Here's my view looking down river (south as you look at the map).
Google Photos made a stylised version. What do you think? I'm not convinced ;-)
The bridge looks pretty cool. Not sure how old it is though.
As you can see, the river water looks brown/red. I don't remember it looking this colour last time we came so I think it must be runoff after all the rain.
I walked onto the bridge and used the panorama feature on the my phone. Not bad. Zooms in ok too.
The kids really enjoy coming out here. They spend hours climbing over the rocks and playing in the water. It's so nice to be out in nature and away from the city. (From right to left - My son, my daughter, my niece)
A great way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
Here are a couple of shots I took on the way home. The views were so good I had to pull over.
This is a stitched together panorama courtesy of Google Photos again.

Another, with a few Dartmoor ponies in the foreground.
Hope you enjoyed the post.

It's great. No mobile signal either so even better. Off the grid for a few hours.

That spot does look idylic. :c) You have had a very pleasant adventure - and you have a lovely family. ^_^
The red color of the water could either be algae or it could be the result of oxidized run-off from soil. Seeing that it seems like a cooler climate, I'd lean toward the latter explanation, especially considering your mention of recent rains.
Thank you for sharing ^_^
By the way - 'travel' might have been a good tag for this. :c) Even if you may not have done much of it yourself.
