Is It Worth Trying?

Absolutely it is!!! I have now used a Straight Razor for a couple of months. I can honestly say that once I got through the initial couple weeks of learning curve (many deep cuts initially), I am now getting the closest shaves that I have ever had. I highly recommend it.

Is Straight Razor Shaving Expensive?

At first transitioning to a Straight Razor appears to be more expensive. However, there are many options available that can minimize your initial investment. And considering that most Straight Razor, if cared for properly, will last for many years, you may actually save money over the long run.

I paid less than $100usd for my first Straight Razor set up. This included the Straight Razor (Gold Dollar Brand), Strop, Brush and first jar of shave cream. Below is the picture of the Gold Dollar Straight Razor.

As opposed to the much more expensive German Straight Razors, this Gold Dollar is made in China and is much less expensive. While it is less expensive, the blade is just as effective as more expensive brands. I highly recommend it.

Does the Shaving Process Take Longer with a Straight Razor

Yes! The Straight Razor Shaving process takes longer. Prior to actually touching the blade to your face, you need to load your brush with cream, strop the Straight Razor, and prepare your face with hot water and maybe some shave oil. I find that it takes me approximately 20 minutes from start to finish as opposed to a cartridge razor shave that typically takes me about 5-10 minutes to complete. That being said, the actual end result of the Straight Razor Shave is the smoothest, closest shave that I have ever achieved.

Being 2 months in I am still relatively new at this and I would very much welcome any advice or additional comments from the more experienced Straight Razor Steemians out there!
