A beautiful place!
If you haven't been, you definitely should go!
The Cruise Ship
I took a cruise out to the Bahamas/Nassau in late 2011 and it was quite the experience!
It wasn't a very long stay, but enough to experience a lot of the area and meet some of the locals.
First getting onto the ship!
The ship was a Carnival cruise line ship and it was pretty large!
Lots of pools and bars and clubs as well as art galleries and much more!
Main pool area.
A piece of art from the on-board gallery!
The rooms were pretty nice and somewhat spacious, considering we were on a ship. :)
The staff was wonderful and always eager to make the trip as enjoyable as possible!
The rooms had bunk beds (yay childhood memories!) but were cozy!
There were also a couple of clubs on board!
I love to party! ;)
They ran all night and were packed with awesome people!
Inside one of the clubs.
The People
You meet a lot of awesome people too while on board, even without trying!
For me, it was honestly mostly women (vacation.. drinking.. cruise.. it was unavoidable lol) but I met a good bit of businessmen as well who were pretty level-headed and down to earth!
A girl I met named Paige, we were super drunk.. lol
Best friends who cruise together consistently! Partners in crime! ;) I love women that are older than me..
So many good people! :)
Arriving
When we finally arrived, the port was so colorful! I loved it!
Pulling into port.
Entering the welcome center!
Just about everything was set in bright, welcoming colors!
A warm welcome indeed!
There were many vendors in the welcome center.. But you know I had to start the day out right!
Bahamas beer!
Right to the beer! ;)
Once you get out past the gates of the port, you arrive on their Main St.
Main St. view.
It's lined with many colorful buildings and of course thrift shops and places to buy memorabilia.
We came across a gallery of their currency and various other Bahama items.
It was really interesting and they had denominations I found to be a bit odd!
$3 bill, a 50 cent bill, it was unique!
A 3$ bill.
As we moved a bit further into the Bahamas, we came to a fort.
It was incredible!
Main entrance area.
The tunnels had holes scored in them to allow breezes to pass through, they were very shady as well, nice and cool!
Different pathways in the fort.
The fort was very labyrinthine in that it was a twist of mazes almost, it wouldn't be hard to get lost if you didn't remember your path. They have tour guides though, so no worries! :)
View looking out from the fort!
This building is the highest point in the Bahamas!
After moving even further inland, we came across this wonderfully beautiful staircase..
It is known as the "Queen's Staircase."
Queen's Staircase top.
It was a beautiful entrenchment surrounded by all types of plants and wild nature.
Vendors lined the walls along the bottom with various different products!
Looking from the bottom upwards while in the Queen's Staircase!
Atlantis
On a nearby island was a grand hotel known as "Atlantis."
It was incredible and quite the monument!
Although, it was nearly $1,000 per night!! Crazy!
An aerial view of Atlantis.
Inside were all types of extravagance..
From statues to fixtures, even to the stores inside it!
Truly elegant!
There were various different statues at every intersection around the casino areas!
The columns were spectacular and so intricately detailed! Very befitting!
The stores were high-class and very expensive.. but then again, when are Gucci or Cartier honestly not?! ;)
The Gucci store. Was convenient anyhow, as I needed a new belt! :)
Conclusion
I wish I had more pictures capturing my experience, but I'm the type of person to live in the moment and just keep that memory close at heart. It's better to live in the moment than to miss it in an attempt to capture a couple of pictures!
All in all, the people in the Bahamas were wonderful, very kind.
It was a beautiful place with wonderful scenery!
I would definitely suggest taking a trip there at some point if you haven't already!
Thanks for reading! :)
Best wishes to you and the hope for many travels!
