What happens when you drink a gallon of water every day?

in life •  8 years ago

Our body is made of 60 % water. I can make many arguments for why it is crucial to drink excess water, some of them being:

  • circulation,
  • digestion,
  • regulating body temperature,
  • elimination of toxins,
  • decreased headaches,
  • keeping you energized and much more.

The facts listed earlier make it easier to infer and interlink the significance of drinking a lot of water. You should trust the fact that drinking a lot of water is the key to a happier, healthier and smarter life.

Here are the factors that come into play after you start drinking a gallon of water every day.

  • Workouts will be better
Workout relies on two things: oxygen and glucose. And water is the component responsible for transporting them to the body so you may feel energetic during the workout. Your joints and muscles will be more relaxed after you have increased your water consumption.

  • Forbids Overeating
When you drink excess water, for instance, a gallon, you will be sparing yourself from over-eating and consuming too many calories. Now, could there be a more natural way of not gaining weight? No exercise, no gym routine, and still you can maintain a physique.

  • The Peeing Tendency
Initially, you will feel the urge to pee more often than you used to before. But soon, you body will accommodate itself to being fed a lot of water, and the tendency of going to the bathroom frequently will decrease.

  • You will begin to refrain from caffeinated drinks
The more water you drink, the less you will feel the urge to drink caffeinated drinks. And since, water gets absorbed by our cells, and caffeinated drinks do not, it’s wise to partake with least consumption of caffeinated beverages.

  • Remove dark circles and under-eye-spots
This is one of those problems which bothers many, and very few can overcome it. Soon after you have begun drinking a gallon of water every day, excess salt from your system will be flushed, the primary reason behind those circles and spots.

  • Reduced Risk of Cancer
Various form of cancer, eminently, colon, bladder and breast cancer risks are mitigated too.

P.S. - You should approach to drinking a gallon of water steadily, for your body will adjust gradually to the increased intake. If you will suddenly switch to a gallon, you electrolytes can get altered, which cause serious health problems.

Water is so good for you, yet has no calories. Or anything in it for that matter. It's funny really hahah.

Adding extra water to your daily diet will make a big difference. I know from experience that drinking more water makes me naturally want less soda and junk food!
Avoid sweetening your water too! Some people say that sweetened or juices count towards your daily intake. But I don't believe that at all. If it's sweetened. It doesn't count! Try to drink your water plain.

Absolutely! Don't just don't get the water from anywhere! LOL>

Without fluoride and other "cleaning chemicals" that is.

Yes true!

I'm going to be "that guy" and leave this here.

And this:

This is so funny LOL

Although to be honest I disagree with the article. LOL I feel like water is absolutely necessary and you should drink a lot of it. It may not have extra "health Benefits" but it keeps your body regular.

Haha, no worries. I'm just a huge believer in "just because it's good for you doesn't necessarily mean that more is better" and that nature has given my body the tools to know basically how to take care of itself. :)

I'm a believer in that too, Haha. But there is a sweet spot for things.
I mean blueberries are healthy but if I eat 6,000,000, 000 a day, I'll probably die! Hahah.

Informative as usual but will I look like the woman in the pictures if I drink that much?

Sadly I don't think so. I WISH i could look that good too!! Hahah dang! She's gorgeous!

Couldn't help but get a laugh from your comments ladies. Guess that means I won't look like Matthew McConaughey if I drink a gallon a day!

Aww man!! Hahah! That always sucks hehe.

Thanks @kaylinart have you ever heard of that thing where your water intake is so high that you get malnourished because the water literally flushes it out?

I haven't! That is crazy. I hope a gallon isn't overdoing it then

Yes, more water is good. But don't forget minerals also. The body needs electrolytes. Water can add them or it can wash some of them (cleaning out the bad and some of the good) out of your body. Some weak tea, a squeeze of lemon, a little juice, or a pinch of sea salt may be a good addition to all that water.

YES! Brilliant comment, How did I forget the electrolytes.
I noticed that when I drink too much plain water throughout the day, It makes me feel tired, then I add some electrolytes and I feel better! Thank you for this comment.

Green tea or herbal tea is also very healthy and may be easier to drink if you're not a fan of cold water. I began drinking 4 tall glasses of water and 4 mugs of green tea about a month ago and can vouch that my skin is clearer, looks healthier (hydrated) and that the dark circles beneath my eyes have faded. It has also contributed to my having lost three pounds without changing my diet. For some reason, drinking a glass of water before each meal has mildly suppressed my appetite.

I love green tea! Thats good for you! I'm glad you do that. I love that water can make you feel full, OUr bodies get so confused. That caffeine in the tea also probably helped you lose weight :)

Great article! FYI here is an article based on a scientific study discussing the hydrating abilities of various drinks:

http://home.trainingpeaks.com/blog/article/how-well-do-different-drinks-really-hydrate-you

Interestingly, orange juice is even better than water for hydration. Here is a part of the scientific study's abstract:

"The identification of beverages that promote longer-term fluid retention and maintenance of fluid balance is of real clinical and practical benefit in situations in which free access to fluids is limited or when frequent breaks for urination are not desirable. The post ingestion diuretic response is likely to be influenced by several beverage characteristics, including the volume ingested, energy density, electrolyte content, and the presence of diuretic agents" http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/early/2015/12/23/ajcn.115.114769

What!! orange juice! That is crazy! Thank you for the link, This is so interesting. I guess if your focused on hydraion drink that orange juice, But if you want to avoid calories drink water!

Juices are really bad because you get all this sugar without the fiber. Nature intended fruit to be eaten and not with a meal. And not too much.

I'm drinking close to that, 3 liters, not 3.8, and I balance my electrolytes with 500ml coconut water a day and 1/8 tsp salt in 2 of those liters with just a little flavoring added. Do you think the sugar substitues dehydrate as much as table sugar? So far, it's helped me regulate my body temperature better and I'm finally sweating a little.

I'm not sure about the sugar substitutes. But I know many of them can be bad for you, So you should try to eat the stuff more natural. Your 3 liters is really good for you! I love coconut water! I've been trying to get more of that in my diet so I can feel better. Nice job with your good habits :)

to put it simply... sugar substitutes are poison. Our bodies get all the sugar we need from natural foods.. we don't need to add any sugar.

We don't need to, but it does help the taste. I need to drink my salty water, but it tastes kinda weird. Sugar, and very limited amount, makes it taste like gatorade with much less the calories, since gatorade is trying way too hard to mask its taste. And depending on where you are and your dietary restrictions, someone may not get all they need naturally. Depends on what's available to the person. The inner city is very sparse when it comes to fruit, and so people have to get their fruit nutrients elsewhere there.

Good Stuff! Im all about drinking enough water... But did you know the body absorbs 6-8 glasses of water when you shower..?

Wait is that a joke? That sounds so crazy!! Why don't people live in the shower then? LOL

excess salt from your system will be flushed, the primary reason behind those circles and spots

First time I hear that, interesting...

Yes :) I'm glad you learned something new hehe

Water makes up 98% of bleach therefore, I strive to each and every day drink a gallon of bleach. I've never had a better smile.

OH MY GOSH!
This is terrible! I bursted out laughing!

I like my water with coffee, cocoa or tea.

you're funny! Cheers

Hehe he is!

It definitely tastes better that way! But plain is better ;) hehehe

Why? You plain water goes right into your stomach and gets mixed with whatever is waiting for it there (food and acid). The body doesn't care if it's pure or not. Everything gets filtered anyways.
What's the harm in adding some herbs into your drink?

I think water is overrated! I drink a gallon of cola everyday and yes I get headaches often and yes I have dark circles and no I don't go to doctors to get checked (who has time for that... It's just health) and yes I will be lucky to live passed 50 but at least I get my intake of that sweet sweet dark poison syrup!

Oh gosh! you can't drink your soda AND water! I am in love with mountain dew, But I drink lots of both.

It was a bad attempt at humour! but I should drink more water in reality! Cheers

HEhehe It's okay, you just gave me a mini heart attack. I was worried haha.

lol you're too kind :)

I am in love with mountain dew

That is high fructose corn syrup. You will pay a huge irreversable health debt later for that. Self-discipline!

nice post! i try to stay hydrated as much as i can! thanks for this post!

Good :) I hope this motivates you to drink more water.

Thanks for this post. Totally worth reading

Youre welcome :) Thanks for reading it hehe!

love to read informative content

Thats good! I post a lot of it! SO if its your thing you may want to check out my other articles.

and it could help to fight cancer (a personal experience!)

Great article! Am going to increase my water intake immediately. Hope it will eliminate the bags under my eyes and lessen my joint pain. Thanks for the tip.

Thank you! I hope it helps you :)

What brand of water do you drink?

HAHAHA !! Uhh Tap water! What about you?
I avoid bottled waters because they are bad for the environment, even though bottled is probably healthier because it doesn't have fluoride I assume

a lot of that bottled water comes from municipal systems so might as well drink tap water.

I ask because 2 days ago this article came out..

http://www.cnn.com/2016/08/09/health/contaminated-water/

Due to problems in the tap water supply, I am thinking Nestle pure life water, since they answer basic questions of where the water comes from, if it's purified or not and how, and they test for contaminants.

http://www.ewg.org/research/ewg-bottled-water-scorecard-2011

Yes, water is important, but chlorine and fluoride in the water is bad.

So true! it scares me that those chemicals are in our water, they need to remove them

There is not a scientific study which recomends to drink not even 2 liters per day as water. This is a legend

So true! But I feel that the 8 cup rule or whatever is not enough water!

Health and wellness are high on my values system. Water is the secret weapon (non-flouride/high-alkalinity variety, please) and the key to health. Thanks for the post @kaylinart!

No problem! I agree water needs to have NO flouride. They need to get rid of it.

water is essential... the heavier a person is the more they actually require so the gallon would be a base amount for some.

Great Article. Especially the point on zero calories. One of the leading causes of obesity (at least in America) is excess "liquid calories." If someone goes out and binge drinks, not only will they be dehydrated, but they will also consume their daily need of calories in one day. If you have a nice healthy salad with a big old sugar filled soda....extremely high calorie lunch haha. Although rare, it was good you pointed out that drinking too fast can deplete your electrolytes. This can lead to cardiac arrhythmias and death. Go water!
