Working Through My Problems With Running!

This year has been so crazy that it's caused me to do a lot of deep thinking, and for me, the best way to think and work through things is by running, or hiking.
It's kind of weird how it happened. Usually, I run only 2 miles a day. But lately I've been running 6-8, and I can't seem to stop.

Running Can Be Mental

I run for my mental health. Doesn't that sound odd?
A lot of people assume that my addiction to running is because of some weight loss goal, Or body goal. Which is partially true. I'm a firm believer that some of the mental illness we see today, Could be "helped" through more physical exercise. When People often think of being healthy, It seems that working out gets pushed to the side. I'm glad that food is considered so important. But exercise is so vastly underestimated.

Don't Meditate, Run Instead!

A lot of people can't bring themselves to meditate. And I can relate, It's hard for me to sit still. I've been running almost every day for 12 years now. And I remember reading something online that made so much sense. I started realizing that the very thing I do while running is a form of meditation. Of course, it may not be as helpful as fully meditating, When you run, There are often distractions, And or other things that can more readily divert your focus.
Here's a great article that goes more in depth about how to meditate while running.

Sure running may not be your thing, I know a lot of people who hate running with a burning passion. But what is it that you can do that gets you moving? Even just a walk.

I Don't know what I'd do without running

I keep noticing as weird things happen, Or if I get good or bad news. Running seems to help me ground myself. To make better choices and fully let the news "sink" in. So I don't act on my emotions, But instead, I can act more logically. Sometimes It gets a little annoying When my brain starts to scream at me for a run, When I'm deeply involved in my work, Or doing something important and urgent. But I always find a quick run makes it much easier for me to focus on what needs to be done once I get back.

I used to run to escape my reality, then I ran to race, now I run at the gym as part of the competition. I much rather swim, in fact that is on the to do list today. when you visit me in florida, we can go jogging and running together and see which one you prefer.

Exercise helps the brain to focus, when I'm facing a challenge and it seems I'm far from a mental breakthrough, I take to running especially in the early hours of the day, every time I do this, I always have the eureka moment

Exactly!! I Have the same results! It's amazing.

@kaylinart - I agree with you. When we exercise, the mind focuses on the rhythm of the body and the hormones produced in the brain make it more focused on enduring pain. This somehow seems to promote calm and even logical thinking.
Some of the leading CEOs in the world have reported that they get a lot of their daily thinking done during a jog/run.
Keep up your running. Steem on friend!!

Running hurts my joints to much to do it, for me its better to walk. My knee always feels like I'v hit it with a hammer after a run - interesting post.

Thank you! I'm sorry about that! My knees hurt sometimes too. Have you found a way to fix it?

I've been taking glucosamine joint therapy, I think its be helping.

I recently got in to running but seem to get a bad knee when I do too much... so I need to get that sorted to get the full benefits. And yes, running is absolutely a form or meditation (ideally you would do that too) and I would say more of a mental game than anything. And it's easy to do, no equipment needed etc. I guess it all comes down to the individual and what works for them... but definitely worth a try!

@kaylinart I need to get outside now and start moving the body more often. You are inspiring me. Thank you

Nice post!
I think the same, always running is the best answer, after that you feel everything more clear.

Wonderful post, very good job, thanks for great sharing
I appreciate your post,Thanks

Good writing
have a nice @kaylinart

Just protect your joints ✌🏼👽

good post my friend

I know I should run for fitness but I don't do it enough. I suppose I can always find good excuses for not running as much as I should if I search for it. So I won't search. I will run. And yes, running is good for mental health.

I can relate. I do meditate, but it seems that when I really want to think about something, I walk. When I really want to think about something, I walk 3-4 miles.

That's amazing that you run that much Kaylin and even better that you can channel some calm and meditation while doing it!

You are so beautiful.

nice post, like my post plissssssssssszzzzzzzzzz

Good jop friends

Awesome well information. Jogging ......

Very great motivation dear

I can absolutely relate to this! When I feel really stressed or just in a funk, running seems to be the best way for me to break out of that mental cycle. For me, it happens about a mile into my run. By that point, my heart rate has gotten up and my brain shifts to the task at hand - running. This brings me into the moment, which is very much like meditation!

Thanks for the great article. 😊 It’s pretty amazing that you’ve been running almost every day for 12 years! That’s some serious dedication.

Informative....wonderful writing
Thank's for sharing

Nice post I love to meditate and thankful have been practicing for year and now finally get it. I just don't get running (each to their own though) it kills my knee and flairs up my shin splints ahhhhh. But walking I can see what you mean, a stroll in the woods feels amazing I finally get what people see in running :)

I really miss running, but don't like to do it outside. I might start taking some of my breaks at work and hit a treadmill. Thank you for reminding me of this goal!

Running is so amazing ! It helps clear my mind of everything . Especially once u get that runners high and everything is blissful ... jeez, 6-8 miles is freakin tough! I'm impressed ! That's way more then I do typically. Keep it up!!!

This is a great, encompassing post. It definitely beats fallacy..

Running or walking is a good habit. We must walk or run for about 2 kms everyday.

For me, it's a brisk walk, cause I hate to run. It reminds me of PE or of the military. But, I walk faster than some people jog ;-)

I started (seriously) running in college... and it was really my "problem solving time." I was never that good at brainstorming in groups, but brainstorming by myself while running worked... perhaps it really worked for me because people leave you alone when you are running. They don't interrupt and say "Hey, I know you're meditating BUT...." to ask for help with something.

Although I would do 10K races regularly, that was never really the "purpose" of my running... nor was fitness; I played soccer and tennis "for fitness." Funny how we compartmentalize things in our minds... Now I'm an "olde pharte" with bad knees so I just walk... it's not the same though, because people do stop walkers, and it interrupts the flow.

Very nice write-up..:)

I do a lot of cycling, and pushups. I can do 100 pushups in one go. Sometimes I walk too. But I would really like to start running too. Soon hopefully :)! Being fit and health improves your mood, confidence, and gives you the much needed energy to perform your best.

We all have our own forms self help methods to deal with good and bad news, some can be good, some can be bad. But when you find your good methods you always find yourself doing it more and more, allowing it to bring your mood up higher and giving that positive nature into your life. :)

Keep it up and keep being positive @kaylinart :)

YouTube personality Casey Neistat is a running fanatic. It keeps him going, regardless of how much he has to do.

A bicycle is more my style. I can travel further to get my thoughts out.
