In the small city of Lugano where I often work, the authorities have eliminated more than 650 parking places in the past 10 years. They have also increased the parking rates of the ones that do remain so that it now costs a fortune! Scooters, bicycles and tiny electric cars like the Twizy pictured above park for FREE!

Today while working in Lugano I observed several of these nifty and nimble electric wonders and even got to witness one maneuvering into the smallest parking spot I’ve ever seen. I was also able to speak to the owner and he was just gushing about his 9-month love affair with the little beauty pictured here! Do you like the color?

Would one of these things make it up the hills some of you guys live on or are they for valley bottom traveling only?

I live up in the mountains at 800 meters above seal level with some of the steepest roads you'll ever see and.........a guy in my town has one!

I hear you can also drive one at 16 in Switzerland (normally you'd have to be 18 to get a license).
Electric cars are the future and I think we should all start migrating over to them.

Beginning to see more of these in Minnesota. They're regulated like motorcycles, and temperature extremes can be problematic for some models - but there are more on the road every year.

The Netherlands find ways to make the street a convenient place for every traffic.
I sure love this car - fits everywhere .. not sure whether it's allowed to be on the main road though - haven't found out but since you wrote that it could run 80km/hr then maybe it is.

Is it a good alternative - yes! I think it's convenient for driving in the city though - not see myself riding it on the highway .
