Bomb explosion in Pattani

On Monday, two people were killed and 14 were severely injured in a bomb explosion in Nong Chik district, southern Pattani province, in a bomb hidden in a motorcycle. The bomb, which according to the first reports was deposited in a motorcycle, exploded near a fresh market in Nong Chik district of Pattani, local police announced on Monday afternoon.

One of the dead was a 14-year-old teenager who was identified as Aiyadilfitli Yoko and lives in Bo Thong Township. The other was 35-year-old Sareepa Ayohsae from the Betong district of Yala.

Among the 14 injured persons were four rangers. They were Sgt Maj 1st grade Somphon Limprasoet, Chirasak Kaeo-nopparat, Saidi Yako and Apichat Rakdi.

All injured people were taken to the Nong Chik Hospital by local rescue teams, police later said.

The effects of the explosion damaged several cars and motorcycles that were parked nearby. The police said they linked the bombing with the uprisings in the south.

In addition, a spokesperson for the police said that further riots are to be feared in the last week of Ramadan, which ends on June 4th.

The security in Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and in the four districts of Songkhla was tightened, the police said. The four districts in Songkhla are: Chana, Na Thawi, Thepha and Saba Yoi.
