Overcoming squinting and blurred vision when reading far off? I don't think I'm the only one who suffers from this, but whenever I try to read in the distance my eyes are extremely blurry and it's very hard to concentrate. How can I overcome this problem? Here are some tips.


First, try repositioning your eyes. If you're squinting because your eyes are not properly set up, move your gaze forward. If you're squinting because you're not fully awake, turn your head to the side and look up. You can also help prevent yourself from squinting by trying to keep your shoulders high, as this is a common reason for squinting. The closer your shoulders are to your reading area, the better your eyesight will be.

Another solution is to get up and take a break. When you first start seeing squint lines, you may be tempted to keep on reading. You probably also have your eyes closed and your mind is on what you're reading. Resist the urge. Move your eyes to another part of the page or even change the layout of the text. It's amazing how this simple change can drastically reduce the amount of squinting that occurs.

Finally, if you are squinting because you are focusing too much on the line below the eye, try closing the eye lid. This works by bringing the eyes' pupils lower, which prevents them from focusing on anything beyond the upper half of the page. Try doing this several times and you should notice a decrease in the number of squinting problems that you experience. Don't worry about this tip interfering with the actual sight readability of the page; it won't.

These are just a few tips to help lessen the squinting that usually occurs when reading. If you still find yourself squinting, you may want to speak with your doctor. He or she may be able to prescribe you with medications that will help you see better or provide you with an eyeglass to wear while you work. Or, you could just choose to buy a pair of glasses that correct your vision. Either way, the squinting will be gone.
