Despite still having one more exam to go next week, holiday season vibe is still official for me. For the last few years, I either spend my year end holiday with a bit of traveling or doing Vipassana mediation. This year, I am doing neither of these activities. So, to spice up my holiday, I am learning new things and writing self-reflection.
However, despite not being able to do my favorite activities, there are several things I like about holiday season in general. it helps me survive the holiday season and keep myself entertained.
As a minimalist, I try to make things as environmentally friendly as possible. I am not perfect but it's the least thing I can do.
So, here are some of my favorite holiday season things :
Novels
Holiday season gives me time to read unassigned books. In daily basis, I already read 5-6 books/week. Some of the assigned books are overrated. So, holiday season is time for me to explore other genre. I try to explore as many genre as possible. This year, my current reading are :
- Around The World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne
- SteppenWolf by Herman Hesse
- Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson
Art Supplies
Each holiday season, I try to get creative and avoid connecting myself too much. So, art supplies help me with managing my cravings to get into the matrix. I am currently learning how to doodle after several years not drawing/getting any creative works. I'll try to share some of my sketches later.
Socks and Blanket
This is very obvious. It's not really winter wonderland far east but it rains a lot. The temperature is lowering, more rain and definitely colder than usual day. Fuzzy warm socks and blanket are my favorite. In fact, I have more winter gear than summer dresses.
Christmas music
Despite you can find me loving any genre, Christmas Themed music are my favorite. There's something about it that's so heartwarming, filled with joy and catchy lyrics. My favorite compilation is from Michael Buble but I am currently listening to any Christmas themed on Soundcloud.
Tea and Chocolate
For some reason, I don't enjoy taking caffeine during the holiday. Mainly because the jittery and inability to sleep later on. So, I enjoy drinking matcha tea and chocolate. I also try to spice up my chocolate by adding cinnamon sticks, powder or marshmalow. Sometimes, I also serve it with cookies and wafers. As of now, I am avoiding those, so that's a bit of bummer.
So that is basically what fuels me this holiday season. Feel free to share your favorite holiday items in the comment below !
