With my consistency of performing daily task is getting better, I decided to write about simple and short philosophical writing. It will not be too long nor too short, enough just to get all of us understand about philosophy branches and how it applies or manifest into our daily life. I want to bring philosophy more approachable and friendlier to young or uninformed readers. I believe that in order to transfer knowledge, one must speak language that others understand.
To be fair, philosophy is full of big words. There is even stereotypes in our society about philosopher and philosophy. This stereotyping makes people think philosophy is sophisticated and difficult to understand. The fact is we have practiced at least one philosophy branch in our life. But the problem lies in our inability to name our ways of life or finding explanations to it.
“Do you love excessive shopping?” there is hedonism to explain your behavior.
“You don’t believe in god” there is atheism to explain this.
“ Do you believe in individual liberty such as freedom of speech, freedom of and from religion?” there is libertarianism to explain this.
Knowing philosophy will help us examine our decision. Whether it is true or not, whether it’s justifiable or applicable into our daily life. Not only but also, we might consider changing our beliefs if we find a better ways to lead our life. It takes time to change our ways of living. Often we have been taught a certain ways of living and being told it is the only righteous ways. Perhaps overtime, it’s not something that we want.
Understanding philosophy will open the door to the world of wonders. Perhaps you don’t know about altruism, materialism, cynicism, etc. We will learn as we explore a little by little. I also hope, as we learn, it will enable us to be more understanding. Thus, we will have more compassion and tolerance towards other decision.
You can be materialist, atheist, deist, humanist, altruist, whatever your philosophical beliefs, let’s try to explore outside the circle. I am still learning and I expect constructive feedback and references to things that I can explore.
