Murphy Strikes Again

in life •  6 years ago  (edited)

I have been cleaning and staying at my house in town for a night. I ran a load of laundry, and discovered I have a massive blockage in my main sewer line. If I didn't laugh, I'd cry, I think the universe may be trying to teach me a lesson here.

So sorry @makinstuff, I have been there too. Is this the main floor or the basement floor? Years ago my Daughter flushed a wash cloth down the toilet. That house had clay sewer pipe that would get cracked from tree roots. The basement backed up with six inches of septic tank water. Could someone have flushed something like this?
Airbnb guests????

Dang....yeah it's just a fact of homeownership :(. I recently had a guest with her dog stay here for a while. That may have played a big part. It's also been raining pretty non stop lately. Just tried some overnight drain cleaner. Gonna try and flush in the morning. Gonna attempt to use a snake on my cleanout in the crawlspace then call a plumber if none of that works out.

I like the snake idea, any babies stay at your place???? I’m just thinking disposable baby diapers????
I really hate plumbing, one November I had to dig up my septic and hang down into the tank to run a snake..... THE WASH CLOTH..... kids.........
Hopefully it will be a simple fix👍

Ah man....now that you mention it. Yes I had a small family here recently over Thanksgiving. It's the main floor It's a 2 bed 1 bath 1940's construction. It was an old barracks house. It's got a crawlspace. Solid construction. Man....that ain't no fun, I hope that's not the case. My main water line busted a few years back and spent a week repairing it myself. Plumbing isn't a lot of fun I'll figure it out. I'm stubborn and aways try to fix it myself until calling a professional.

I feel for you. We went through our own problems along the same lines. No fun.

Nah it ain't man...had to break down and call a plumber. The drain cleaner I tried was no good. There is a cleanout that gives me a straight shot down the sewer line in the crawlspace, but it is completely seized in there.

howdy sir makinstuff! what a pain, been through lots of those, are you going to try and clear it yourself? snake it or rent a big power snaker? hopefully it's easy to clear.

I ended up hiring a plumbing service, don't know how much the tool rental would cost but I know how much the plumbers cost to clear the lines noe and the proper procedures. I had to cancel the people that were coming for my Airbnb because I have some subflooring damage that needs to get taken care of now.

oh great, I hope the damage isn't that bad, you'll repair that yourself right? I agree in having the pros come in and do the drain with the great equipment and they know how to use it and they can do a better job much of the time because of those factors. What was the problem or do you know?

Oh lawdy! I feel for ya. I had a basement apartment in Queens Ny years ago that flooded with sewer water every time there was a heavy rainfall. Wound up coming out on top in court but I can't say it was truly wort the heartache. I lost some valuable shit in the first flood and wound up having to live there for almost 9 months. Albeit rent-free, it was a huge hassle and probably not very healthy. Hope you get this straight. Sending you good vibes <3

Thanks brother, I'm glad it happened while I was here and not my Airbnb guests. I gotta count my blessings, thank you for the good vibes bud.
