My Worst Nightmare Has Finally Been Realized

in life •  7 years ago

I thought I had more time....

Just a little bit longer until the time finally arrived.

But I was wrong. It arrived a week after the one year anniversary of my daughter's birth.

That terrifying face!!!

I hate childrens television and kiddie songs. Up until now my daughter has ignored the presence of televisions. She loves the sound of music but hasn't paid attention to the TV. As soon as she hit a year old that changed and she started to notice and react to music on the television.

My daughter really loves row row your boat...We have a smartTV with a kiddy song app on it. I'm sure I've heard the song play 30 times this past weekend. Something about that particular song makes her smile and get all excited. I'm happy she loves music and things that teach the ABC's and numbers but I thought she would be older before she'd enjoy that kind of stuff.

It was nice being able to be selfish with the radio and TV.

My days of watching the Walking Dead and other shows with violence and bad language unguarded are numbered.

This is the beginning of having to wait until my kid isn't around or in bed to watch like 80% of the shows I like. Pretty soon she'll be hogging the remote to watch Disney movies and Nickelodeon. She'll complain how boring it is to watch the news and want me to turn off the Bachelor so she can watch...well to be honest I have no idea what shows are on Disney and Nickelodeon but I'm sure they are all horrible.

Right now my adorable little one is bopping up and down to Barney the Dinosaur and I'm about to go out of my mind.

But she's so damn happy and I want her to love music.

As Barney sings all I can think is "mommy needs to watch something with cussing and explosions and adult themes soon to get my sanity back."

I'm sorry. :)
My youngest nephew, now 7. skipped the purple dinosaur - thank the gods for that - but loves SpongeBob, Rick and Morty, and YouTube.
I never had kids, so I only have to compete with the man for the remote, which is worse. If I want to watch TV, I have to watch what he wants to watch, and if I'm watching something and he comes in the room, he will steal the controller and change the channel, then go back to his office to watch the other TV, with the remote. Needless to say, I have gotten used to watching television on my laptop or PC.
Have fun with the monster!

If my kid ever tells me her favorite show is SpongeBob I'm probably going to have to sell all the TVs...lol. Just kidding but SpongeBob is at the top of my most hated list. One year pre-baby I put the child lock on my TV so my husband couldn't navigate to the sports channels without punching in a passcode that I refused to give him (it was 0000) It was hilarious. And that's how I got my TV all to myself for a few years.

Brilliant! I should do that, so he can call Comcast all bent out of shape because he can't access the channels...in the living room OR his office :D

You crack me up!

Glad I could give you a laugh.

I know how you feel.. I have to sell my Xbox and give up game of thrones for the little ones.
I wonder if I can hold off watching for another 15 more years?

That's probably how long it'll take for them to release the final season lol. So sad about the xbox! I'm not giving up my PS3! I'll hide it and play in the closet if I have to.

The sacrifices we make huh? I think when that time comes, I would have game of thrones and all the other spin-offs they make. Your post inspires me creatively! Upvoted and followed

Hahahahahah! Good observation!

You'll be able to do this soon enough.

All you need is an eyeglass-projection VR-TV and earphones that only you can see and hear... But you'll need someone to keep an eye on your little one while you do. ;)

😄😇😄

@creatr

Good tips lol. A VR-TV would be awesome. Daddy is always up for babysitting.

go online and download an episode where Barney gets dead or sick and convince the little one that barney can no longer perform.

Ahhh, nothing quite like the sudden realization that you've been whistling a Disney song in the hallways at work 😱

My advice is to get the older Winnie the Pooh short films and also loads of Scooby-Doo!

A better solution, no TV. We have lived without TV (our choice) for almost twenty years. Have we missed it? No. We have replaced the idiot box with other family activities. and now we have grandchildren there is some TV in their homes but it is limited. Who is Barney anyway?

Keep her away from the Tellytubbies...those things are EVIL!!!! They never ever leave once they arrive...
