Sometimes You Have To Fear What Lurks In The Night

Sometimes in the middle of the night when I can't sleep I like to turn our TV to the security cameras around our house. You'd be amazed at how active critters of the night are when you are typically in bed. Living near the woods you never know what you'll see. Sometimes I'll see something on the cameras that scares me....

This monster popped up the other night...

This is a HUGE raccoon. It was sniffing around outside my duck coop. It walked around every side seeing if there was a way inside. My poor little ducks where in the middle sleeping. Thankfully, the raccoon couldn't get them. This is the monster coon that destroyed our corn patch and ate on around 40 corn over the course of three days.

My husband got a humane trap to catch it so we could release it somewhere else. The raccoon triggered the trap but got away. We think that the trap is too small. The coon went in for our corn bait but it's rear didn't fit in the cage. It probably shut on it's back allowing it the ability to escape. The trap was moved which surprised us and there was a hole outside of it where it probably dug in it's back feet to escape.

I fear this raccoon

I was shocked to actually see it on the security cameras. I randomly woke up at 4 AM and couldn't go back to sleep. I checked the cameras and boom there it was. I love my ducks and my biggest fear is a predator killing them. I went out there with a flashlight and scared it off. I couldn't sleep because I was worried and ended up staying awake until sunrise so I could keep checking on my ducks.

I wish we could catch and relocate this raccoon. He's cost us almost an entire harvest of corn and desires a duck dinner. I hate seeing it around the duck coop with my innocent ducks inside helpless.

I used to have a mobile chicken coop, which was attacked by a raccoon that successfully ripped the egg collection door off. (It was starting to degrade and I underestimated the strength/determination of raccoons.) So we boarded up the door and I moved it next to my bedroom window the following night. Around 2AM he was back, I heard the chickens panicking, flung open my curtain and saw a surprisingly small and cute raccoon. But, I was still terrified of it :D

Those guys are intimidating.

midnight that I often get ghosts, sometimes I see people walking without heads. this is not a dream. and many more strange things.

Hello friend and I imagine the anguish that you felt for the ducks, that good that nothing happened more, to take care more at night.

Wooww friend surprise this raccoon so ingenious and must be more careful and prevent, so that this does not happen again.

Hahaha i always feels scare about night.

Predators always scare me after having lost many hens to them! Keep those babies safe!

We had a fox problem. Poor little ducks.

Perhaps it is time for a guard dog? We had racoons when we first moved out to the country. Very smart and cause a lot of damage. We got a guard dog (black lab, good with kids) and no more racoon problems...

I wonder if there's a good way to keep him out of your yard. People make squirrel launchers, mini catapults with squirrel bait. You could make a huge one and just set it at night. If you here a click and a racoon scream fading off into the distance, you know it's done the trick!

We have people trap squirrels and bring them out to where my parents live, in the "country." It turns out that squirrels are territorial, and the "exiles" wind up being torn to shreds by the locals.

Ah yes the tell-tale tail lol! ;)
