This is a look back at an epic hike that we did a few years ago with a large group of friends through Haleakala National Park. We started close to the ocean, at 1000 foot elevation in the grassy lowlands of Kaupo. The trip included staying in two different cabins, a marathon of hiking, and over 12,000 feet of total elevation gain for the weekend. Below are some highlights from the journey.

That is Cristian at the Paliku cabin. Paliku is a very special place in the park, the rainforest meets high elevation desert.
We had clear skies for almost the entire journey

Open space with a Mars like or Moon like quality, plus in certain parts it is very quiet.

A young silver sword plant - these are only found in these remote locations in Hawaii.

The cabins in the Crater come with all you need to cook - it just take a little more time and sensitivity .

We all had to do push-up at the end. I upped it - finger pushups. Below is a video with many of the photos from this epic hike. Make sure you get out and enjoy our parks and friendships.

Below is a short video I made of the view over the Paliku Cabin, looking towards Hana and then back into the crater.
