Roasting

Hey BoomDawg! It's roasting outside and it's Friday, you up for some lunch in the sun?

I looked up from an important document. One of my workmates Bin-Juice towered over my desk.

I had a glance out the window, it was indeed sunny. A rarity for April in Scotland.

ghslrv_ah_20.jpg

Erm, aye alright then muckster. You heading just now?

Aye man! Come on, let's get out into that sun!

His enthusiasm was infectious. Why the heck not? I stood up and as I did so I couldn't help but notice that he wasn't wearing his jacket. My back chuff tightened slightly with a pang of fear.

I will just grab my jacket?

I said, hopefully.

Bin-Juice spluttered, as if he had caught me eating a pear.

ghslrv_ah_20_20180420125158356.jpg

A jacket? Are you mental? It's boiling outside. Look at it? Look at it!!!

I looked reluctantly at the pale Scottish sun doing it's best to look as if it could boil something. My eyes couldn't help but be drawn to the corner of the window where the last vestiges of the morning frost stubbornly clung on.

ghslrv_ah_20_20180420125414853.jpg

Peer pressure. Mans greatest enemy. No other force makes man so stupid.

I found myself nodding like a buffoon.

We walked out of the building. As we stepped into the sunlight for a moment it almost did seem warm. The blood pounded in my veins and I had to fight the urge to claw at my shirt and throw it to the ground in the grand Scottish tradition of taps aff.

ghslrv_ah_20_20180420125158356_20180420143613800.jpg

We went to a nearby coffee shop and grabbed some mawfee and a seat at one of the outside tables.

The pale yellow sun shone down on us. According to my phone, it was 15 degrees Celsius. That wasn't taking into account the wind though, which by my reckoning was dragging the temperature down to single figures.

Bin-Juice regaled me with tales of his wild family chopping down a tree for being English.

ghslrv_ah_20_20180420125158356_20180420143501903.jpg

I nodded and smiled throughout. My nipples were getting all hard and not in a sexy sexy way. The cold was making them poke out and chafe against my shirt.

I whimpered slightly.

Bin-Juice pounced indignantly.

Hey, don't tell me you are cold, it's fucking lovely man, it's practically fucking summer!

I looked at him, his cheeks were red and I could swear that I could see his breath fogging out on the frigid Spring air.

Oh well, fuck peer pressure.

Bin-Juice. I am heading inside. It's fucking freezing and I know you are being optimistic and we are Scottish so we have to pretend that this weather is amazing because it might be the best we get all year but really man... It's fucking freezing? Are you coming?

Bin-Juice took a big deep breath. Then deflated with a whoosh.

Aye alright man, it's fucking freezing. Let's go. But hey, if anyone asks, we were out in the sun all lunchtime ok?

I snorted, like a bull eating noodles.

Of course mate!

We headed inside, honour satisfied.

Desperation for warm sunny weather. I know the feeling from my days on the frozen tundra of Canada!

Indeed, it seems so close and yet so far!!!

Yes, I remember, it was 1991, end of june in London. We had few rainy days and it was cold. From Skopje's 42°C to London rainy days for me was awfully cold. After, those days Sun started shining and that day when I went down, in the house, I saw landlord's kids with small shorts and small sleeves T-Shirts, like it was 50°C. I was still freezing, ok less but they were hot exactly like "their brother" Your Bin-Juice...

I adore London but I would not change MK Sun for anything in the World...

And I do not blame you for it! When it gets going, the summer here is quite pleasant, when it's not raining but I do prefer hotter countries!!

Yes, ☀☉🌝🌞☀☉🌞"O Sole Mio..."...
Nothing better than Summer...Even the mood of the people is different...

The poor pale yellow sun...trying so hard. So is there an official Taps Aff day? March 5?

There should be! But it is any day the temperature gets a bit warm and the sun stays out. It's ridiculously cold and everyone is saying how amazing it is!!

I guess people are starting to become desperate this time of year for a big dose of vitamin D! It's been awfully cold here in NJ too. A friend thought his thermometer was broken because every morning for 2 months it has read 40 degrees! (is like 4 Celcius I think!)

Hehe, I can imagine thinking the thermometer is broken. Is it getting any better out your way now? At least we have made it to double figures this week :0)

Yesterday it was 40 (lol) and drizzly rainy! I complained to my gardening assoc that I couldn't go to the clients because my knees were bothering me! I mean, I didn't want to sound totally wimpy complaining that it might rain and my fingers would freeze off. Well, the rain came, I can't imagine they all stayed outside working all day. We haven't had a 5-day week yet, and prob barely a any 4-day weeks cuz of the thermometer being stuck at 40 ;0) oh, and a few April snow storms ;0/

Right now it is SUNNY and 41 (still 4 C or maybe 4.5Celcius - do you all use decimals? or it's just whole numbers for temp?) SUpposed to go to 51 (10C) but the WIND! Makes it flippin' cold.

Oh, but last Friday it hit 80!! (26 C) It was a glorious day only to go back to a broken thermometer 2 days later....

Aw, it's even worse when one day gives you a glimpse of what could be them it is snatched away!

We just use whole numbers, none of that .5 malarkey. Simple folks us ;0)

What is it about brave men who have to prove it under peer pressure? Freezing your arse off is no way to do it! Are you daft man?

It's Scottishness. Honest! We have to prove the cold is warm!!

I wonder how many DUMB things have been done in the name of that pressure d' peere over the years. I'm sure there are many that didn't even survive the 'push'.
I about choked on my pear (yes), when I read that- "when bastards force you to do shit you don't want to". Classic, and a shout out to Mr. Darwin, and his well-earned awards.
Hoping your mannips are all feeling better today as well. Though you sunless Scotts are a hardy lot, so maybe not really necessary.

WE are hardy, I suppose we would have to be because we are so stupid about the cold lol!!

I can think there would be stupidity beyondcounting!! :O)

LoL! I would have grabbed the jacket and laughed at him afterwards, but I am terrible at peer pressure XD

(I also wouldn't be there for long periods of time as I'm also terrible at cold ;D)

You were totally outside all lunchtime though. Boiling in the nice sun.

goatsig

Totally, the whole lunchtime. It was boiling. Who needs jackets ;0)

the climate in the world is a bit changed, here in Argentina we should be cold, and the autumn is cold weather and yet it is crazy heat, today almost 40 degrees, is for the beach.
I hope the spring days will arrive soon
I wish you a wonderful weekend dear friend @meesterboom

40!?!? That is wild. In autumn too. Yes indeed the weather of the world is going nuts!

I think I understand your coworker Bin-Juice, is the great desire to have and enjoy a warm climate when they have gone through this season so cold, is the desire to get out of the routine, is the desire to tell something different to their friends and co-workers ... There's something sad about the story and it has to do with Bin-Juice, he looks like a good guy but he's probably looking for some friend to share with, of course he wants to be friends with BoomDawg! ... What differences shows the world, while you freeze in Scotland , here in Venezuela, today we almost melt from the heat, at least in the city where I live ... what will be better? cold? the heat? Maybe something of the two, something balanced ... Greetings @meesterboom

I much prefer being too hot than too cold!

A balance would be nice but I would go for hot!

Yes, it seems that if we have to decide, we should choose The Hot ... But beware of hell! ... Greetings @meesterboom

It's halfway through autumn here, and although we haven't got the 40 degrees @jlufer has (WTF?) it's encouragingly sunny and I optimistically put on just a T shirt this morning. But it's actually only 17 degrees outside, and going to go down to 10 overnight, and I'm about to admit defeat and go and put more clothes on. I think when we go out later, there will be wind chill and we'll be wearing our puffa jackets.

We are looking at 17 today!! I don't know if I can resist the siren lure of taps aff!!

Although really, I should probably be getting the puffa jacket out for later!!

I'm surprised it hasn't been better! I'm only a little way down in the toon and we've been hitting 25!

You poor scots..

25!?!!!

Jeez!!! The highest was 16 this week but when you count the wind chill it's still freezing!!

Bastards ;0)

Honestly mate, I feel like I'm in Spain, we've been relying on that wind chill to stop ourselves overheating!

hahaha you like to rub it in a bit...

Hahaha yeah I love rubbing it in :)

Meh.

A pox on all southerners!!

;0)

Man, what a difference between here and there. Here in Canada, people are stripping down at the first signs of positive temperatures. We have kids coming to school in shorts and t-shirts and it is just 5 degrees Celsius. I totally get the nipple issue. When I was running a lot there would be times when it was a little cooler and the nips get a little perky. By the end of a 5 KM run, my t-shirt was sometimes bloody. It felt like someone bit the tip of my nipple right off.

Hehe, I had exactly the thing on a 10k run before. I had scoffed at someone at the start who was sticking bandaids to his nipples. At the body and I was working I had too!!

Classic tale of peer pressure and manliness. Happens a lot in Montana as well, temp hits 50 degree F and everyone is wearing shorts like it is summer time. Maybe for a younger man, but for an older type like me, those days are long gone. Love these types of stories. well done Boom!

Hehe, glad ya like! Yeah it's wild. I don't mind admitting when I am freezing!

I used to try to be tough but no more, I’ll wuickly admit I’m freezing

AHAHAHAHAHAHAH. Yeah baby, get your nipples harder and harder.
That could be a great title for a song.

Hehe, I can hear it now!! :O)

Hahahaha. I just caught up on this one and read your 'taps off' one; an activity I remember being very popular in Aberdeen (sadly). Always take a jacket!

It's hard! As you will know at the merest hint of sun everyone is like wayhay taps aff!! So it's hard to take a jacket!!

Ha! Yesterday was undoubtedly the nicest and warmest day we've had all year. Most of the snow has even melted. I was thrilled to not have to wear a coat, but I still wore my flannel over a long sleeved shirt.

As I stepped outside there was hooting and hollering as my 5 yr old boy was running around shirtless, posing and kissing his biceps for a passing neighbor! The 12 yr old had positioned herself in a lawn chair facing the sun and sketching like one of those artists you see at the beach. And my 8 yr old had laid a beach towel out over the dried mud and gravel, rolled her pants above her knees, begging me to go buy water balloons because it was so BOILING HOT! Poor children had gone mad with cabin fever, I suppose.perhaps it's the same for the Scots? 🤣

Lol, yeah, it's exactly the same for the Scots!

lol so recognizable! Although yesterday was here fantastic. and today looks good too, we will go and buy a new bbq, so we can bbq tonight, because next week the temperature will fall right down to normal again. I mean you do HAVE to bbq when the wether is good they say...

Lucky you. I think it might be a few more weeks before it's Barbie weather here!

It was a fantastic night we bought a big bbq, with a separate smoke compartment, so it was exciting the first time, and afterwards, we set a fire in the fire dish, because with cool spring evenings you just have to sit outside ... one of them moments your ass freezes off and you front gets burned...

For us 15 is cold - our summers go up to the 30's and more - how often do you actually see the sun in Scotland or is it like I picture mostly cold and rainy or snow?

15 is cold!

We see the sun quite a lot from about may to October. Thankfully, it I would have to leave :0)

Lol sometimes it's just better to watch the sun from inside :D

Haha, true!!

lol oh dear! You should have headed south a bit, is was 25 degrees here in Notts! And what is all this about chopping down English Trees...tell him I want a word with him xD

Haha, it was a ridiculous conversation about an elm lol

We had a good day today, almost 17!!

I reckon the weather you had would've chilled me bawls like ice cubes. Man, I think you would melt during a normal day here! Haha!

Well, I would surprise you because I flaming love the heat!! I thrive in it like a banana!! :O)

Here in Singapore, it is 26-degree Celsius all year round with no cold weather like winter. We are very lucky if it drops below 20 lols! Upvoted!

Oh my, that is the perfect temperature. Not too hot and definitely not cold. I would be a happy man at that!

I could feel that cold last night (or something like that) I'm sleeping in another house because my air conditioner is damaged... my blanket is not so thick because I'm poor and I can't buy another, the air conditioner in that room leaves my ass like a penguin's ass and my nose making Ice cubes lol

Yeek, you need an air conditioner though. That must mean it's hot hot hot!

Here it is very hot 34 ° exactly, so for me 25 ° down I find cold, I'm warm-blooded lol

What is it with letters? some letters seem to stick together like,
stupid, scottish, scared of looking a wooss, frozen Solid,
and others, warm, wonderful, welcome,
English is a funny language

Hahaha, yes some do. It's amazing what can be done with words ;0)

What's that strange feeling inside me. I think I'm about to wish you a great weekend.
Have a happy weekend Boomz and lots of sunshine :O

this is what happens when you get trapped in the claws of peer pressure.

That bastered holds you tight and then deserts you and encourages you to think youre having fun.

am glad boomy wised up and sorted himself out.

I was actually laughing erratically when the other guy agreed that it was actually freezing.

I am particularly enthralled by your language. its awesome. and how captiating your stories are.
