Small Town Life

Spent tonight hanging out with my fellow firefighters for our last training of the year.

We are all truly volunteers, no one gets paid (not even the Chief!) but we do it because we love our town and the people in it. Ine of the great things about being in a small town is that we get to do things for our neighbours and call it training!

Tonight, we grabbed a hydrant with some Large Diameter Hose (LDH) and then stretched two 1.75 inch preconnects plus another two 1.75 inch lines running off a 2.5 inch with a gated wye. And then...we flooded the rink!

How can we call this training? Well, we would do the exact same thing for a house fire! By training slow and deliberately, we will be faster when the time counts!

What did you do tonight?

This is awesome, man. I'm a volunteer Fire Fighter in my rural community too. It's such a great way to be a part of the community. Except during christmas dinner and the pager goes off...lol.

My wife has a series of pictures from Halloween 2016 that show the entire progression of my face as I go from getting ready to trick or treat with our daughter to "oh, shit...my pager is going off". Thankfully they both understand that when the tones drop, Daddy has to go out the door!

Yeah, it's great that they are supportive. My wife had been finding it super hard recently (being in her 1st trimester of her 3rd pregnancy) so I'm actually in a temp leave for a few months. It does take huge sacraffices for our families too.

I replaced a broken window in a truck tonight. Not nearly as exciting as what you did.

I sure hope you had a warm garage or shop to work in!
