I'm quickly learning the importance of individuality and treating people as individuals.
Over the last week Ive been pondering the coaching sessions that I was planning to teach and what aspects of the game I wanted to go over with my players.
The Problem
As I started to think about all the possible things that we could work on, I soon realised that everyone taking part didn't need to be taught about the same thing as some needed to work on other parts of the game. I only have 1 hour to work with the children and I didn't want to spend it on just 1 or 2 things as I teach over 10 players all with different needs and at different levels. I quickly realised that I had to do something different to get the maximum out of the time that I had and the players that were attending.
The Plan
I decided to treat all the players as what they are INDIVIDUALS!!
My 2 assistant coaches took charge of the session and I would call each player one at a time to go through what I think they need to work on and also give them the opportunity to talk 1 on 1 on how they think things are going and what they like and dislike.
The Outcome
Today must have been one of the best sessions that I have ever had. Talking 1 on 1 and being able to explain what things I think the players should work on was priceless. Everyone had different aspects that they needed to work on and as a result they each got so much more fro the session.
Bring on the next session taking place on Saturday :)
