Achievers – What Makes Them Tick?

in life •  6 years ago

Introduction

Now, when we say Achievers, most of us are already figuring out in our mind whether we belong to the “Achiever’s” breed or not. Interestingly, statistics says that 90% would have already decided in our mind that this is something that we are not and it would be good to read about it, so that one day we can become an achiever. Isn’t that right?

Well, why statistics, look around us. Why do see only 1-3% of the world population at the top of success and having all that they want to have. The numbers don’t add up do you say? Yeah, after all 90 + 3 is still 93% percent then what about the rest 7%. Well, this 7% of the population does not have access to things that can get them more than they already have. What am I speaking about?

Think of the tribal population in Africa or India, they are not going to sit on a laptop in office, are they? Not that they can’t but because they simply don’t want to. Again, that does not mean that they are not happy, you will find different kinds of achievers in that population too.

Just to demarcate, when I say 90% population, I mean that set of the population which has access to the same set of things that are available to the achievers, and those that aspire to be where the achievers are. Get it?

So, let’s get back to the 1-3% of the population

What makes them different? Genetics? Or just the mental make-up? Neither. Well, in part the mental make-up but that is also the good news.

The achievers pick up positive vibes and thinking from the surrounding and keep using it make their mental strength stronger and stronger. Was that sounding like Greek? Okay, let’s take an example.

Michael Phelps, the Olympic and World Record holder in swimming says that:

If you want to be the best, you have to do things that other people aren't willing to do.

See? That is the only thing that differentiates most of us from him as far as winning the Olympic Gold is concerned. This doesn’t mean that we need to leave everything and start swimming classes 😊. My point is that if we push ourselves to excel in whatever we intend to do and do it with utmost dedication then success and achievement is inevitable. And the difference is that many of us wouldn’t even bother to get up at 4:00 a.m. to practice and that’s where we fall out of the achiever space.

Take few minutes out for this video:

In saying so, I also mean that if you can chat up with the people you call achiever and try to understand what they do and how they do it, and you ape it, you will find the same success that they have.

Problem is not many of us want to do it!

Why is that?

Because of our mental make-up. Ah, I have come back to my original point. I am a genius!

Well, the problem is when most of us see a hurdle, it is assumed to be the point where we need to give up and go and do something else. The same hurdle when presented to the achievers, makes them instantly want to cross it and keep going towards their goals. See, the difference?

An achiever can handle both kinds of experiences, favorable and unfavorable, and make most of it. A non-achiever usually wilts under the pressure of a non-favorable experience and fades away. Anyone can handle and be content, if not happy, in a favorable situation but only the bold can even consider standing up to a non-favorable experience.

But like I said in the beginning, it is our mental make-up which makes it easier to become successful in whatever form that we want to achieve it.

What is Mental Make-Up?

Well, it is our belief system. Most of us are conditioned from our childhood, not because of our fault, that we cannot win and from there starts our journey of being part of the 90% of the world. Good news is that we can change our belief systems. What do you think really happens in places like ‘Alcoholic Anonymous’ and similar places helping people get rid of their addiction? Simple answer – changes in our belief system. So, if a hardcore addict can change, just imagine how easy it is for you and me to change. Isn’t that an amazing news!

Do read about our belief systems over here to get a better understanding so that I don’t end up repeating myself across articles.

It is the belief system of the achievers that make them stand out. They are not bogged down by the situation, issues do not overwhelm them, and they have faith that things can be resolved. Most importantly they are UP, the next day, to face the situation. The non-achiever believes that he or she can’t handle a situation without even facing the situation. This difference in belief system is what defines the lives of men and therefore, the growth that they can achieve.

What Next?

There are many ways to identify what stops you from being the best. Just track your fear and eliminate it. Whenever, you sense fear about something, ask yourself, is that a valid fear? Or is it just those tiny good for nothing noises in the head telling you something you are not?

Step 1: Identify the instances of fear

Step 2: Write it down

Step 3: Write a new affirming sentence opposing the fear

Step 4: Read it first thing every morning and last thing every night

Step 5: Continue for 21 days and see your life change

Let’s take a quick example. I am not good at typing is that inner voice in your head telling you and you therefore, fear instances where you have type a letter or presentation fast. So here are the steps:

Step 1: The fear in getting a presentation out is your fear that you are not good at typing

Step 2: I am not good at typing

Step 3: I am good at typing. I am really fast and really good

Step 4: Read the above sentence every morning

Step 5: See yourself becoming good at typing in 21 days… How’s that!

You can read more about affirmation here and here for similar reasons as stated before, so that I avoid repeating things.

Concluding Words….. For Today 😊

Again, don’t limit yourself by thinking that achievement means money only. Money, yes, but wouldn’t you agree that one Olympic Gold medal of Michael Phelps is worth more than millions of dollars in cash somebody could give him? So, think of achievement in every form. Spending quality time with your son or daughter out of your busy schedule is an achievement too. So, go for it, become an achiever and let’s see us in the 1-3% of the world.

Better still let’s expand the 1-3% figures a lot more by joining that group! So what are you waiting for my dear Achiever! Get going!

See you soon!

Exactly, positivity is the major trait that drives us towards success.
Jack Ma also say that in order to attain the success we need to do things that are not comfortable to us. Great words @oivas

Yes, @pranithreddy, not only Jack Ma, but major achievers would be saying the same. It is so easy, achievers are letting us know how it works, and yet we hardly want to pursue those suggestions and then wonder what is not working.

Thanks for stopping by! :)

achievers and goal orientated people - is there any difference in your opinion?

Great post. upvoted

In case of achievers, it is kind of synonyms but then sticking to goals is what differentiates winners from others. I have personal experience of seeing people around me making goals and not following them. And then you can hear them make excuses left, right and center.

By the way, what are the achievers achieving? Their goals. That's why when it comes to achievers, goal oriented and achievement-oriented is the same.
