Remember When We Used to Buy Books?

You know, books, the paper kind...with paper pages and all...

I used to spend real money on them! I don't know what year I bought this, but its been a while.

You did get your money's worth because they didn't scrimp on quantity. You knew if it was a good book, you would be able to enjoy many a hour curled up with it.

Hence one can tell a favorite book by how dog-eared the pages became over time.

Or how many hours were spent reading it while soaking in the bathtub.

Sometimes, I miss books.

Heh... whaddaya mean "used to?"

I still buy and read books, on a regular basis... funny thing is, we had a Kindle and my wife has an iPad, but we pretty much never use them for reading anything longer than a few pages. But yeah, I do miss the days of spending hours at bookstores... still have a couple of nice antiquarian ones here in our small town where I go from time to time.

me too, still in love with every single page of my books.
ebooks are practical but real books have something special like vinyl records

See I cam from the vinyl era. Us kids then couldn't wait for CDs...now everyone wants to go back to vinyl lol.

Me too. It's sad though, that some books can't be bought as real books anymore. Some books can't be bought at all.

Yep I know many authors are going the self publishing route so its only available for digital download.

Fair enough and a good point! You are 100% right, they still sell them. I might need to treat myself to some!

NOTHING LIKE TURNING PAGES

Oh yeah! That's a nice stash! I should have said books LOOK good too. On a shelf, just waiting for you. Too cool man!

Ahh the old reading books in the bathtub days. I remember them well. I'm afraid to take my iPad in there!

All the best from one old guy to another!

@kus-knee (The Old Dog)

Exactly! Not only for the potential expensive loss of said iPad, but I'm from the days of seeing on TV the old "throw a toaster in the tub to get rid of someone" LOL! Don't think that would be the case with an iPad, but hey I'm not willing to risk testing it lol.

I am still a fan of paper books. They can take a lot more abuse. And some of them seem like old friends. I can't say that about any e-books, lol. Happy reading!

Agreed, they are like old friends!

I love books. There are some old books that I like to collect, usually ones that have some connection to me or my family. Have I read all of these? Surely not! But they do look great sitting there ;) I've been meaning to downsize and donate stuff I don't care for anymore.

A long time ago (the payout is long gone, so this isn't about that) I wrote about the Timeliness Of Books, which you might like.

I just read your link. I thought I would comment there, but apparently its not possible after some point in time? I have only been active here a few days, so I am still learning.
I agree that what makes a book good is it means you where you are at a specific time. I prefer to read bibliographies of people I admire, never was a big fan of fiction.
Oh and BTW my mom passed from Alzheimer's. Its is very sad.

Yes there's a cut off for interactions on older posts, very foolish. It creates a very ephemeral culture to a permanent blockchain.

For sure. I do a lot on YouTube and have videos that are 5 YEARS old that people still watch and comment on regularly. In addition, YT still runs ads against those vids and they are paying me legacy dividends. Do you think its a simple preference or is it difficult for some technical reason?

I'm not really sure why they don't allow interaction on older posts, seems weird not to.

Great looking stash!! I love those strong shelves. I bought some cheap ones, thinking they were going to be temporary in nature and of course I still have them and every shelf is bowed and looks like it may give way at any second lol!
