A Weekend of Dirtbikes, Supercross, Freestyle Motocross Action and Excitement at the AUS-X OPEN 2017!

Ok I have a confession to make. My 1st love is food but my other passion is SUPERCROSS/MOTOCROSS. Some people may not know what this is, but essentially it's dirtbikes i.e. motorcycles with engines designed to race on dirt tracks, either indoors inside stadiums (supercross) or outdoors on tracks built into natural terrain (motocross).

This weekend, we went to watch RD4 and RD5 of the Australian Supercross Championship called the AUS-X Open.

This is a special event as a season that's typically dominated by Australian riders is made even more special by way of hosting US-based riders. Generally the US riders are a lot faster due simply to the fact there is more money in the sport, more competition and the opportunity to succeed at a junior level is more prominent.

We started off with a tour around the pits starting with some FMX bikes - these are used for stunts hence they look slightly different to race bikes with modifications to the bars, grab holes etc

Here's the FMX guys practicing before the main show - check out the train video below (basically where they do tricks one after the other). Don't realise how dangerous and high they're jumping until you see it in real life!

A couple of minibikes they used for the little kids to ride before the main event

Yamaha had a sponsorship stand and displayed a few other of their amazing machines

The Husqvarna tent which played host to 2 US-based riders, Jason Anderson and Dean Wilson

This is me having a chat with Jason!

Me hanging out with a Kawasaki 2018 KX125

HIGHLIGHT <<<<<< This is a photo of me meeting the Greatest Of All Time (GOAT), Ricky Carmichael. Winningest rider in history and someone I watched race for over 15 years on TV all the way from Australia (he's from the US) and I finally got to meet him! Dream come true.

Time for the show to start!!

Pretty cool pyrotechnics / fireworks show - this was only a short snippet but it was pretty awesome to watch!

There were plenty of heat events, semis etc but we were all here for the main event with the 450cc machines

Second (and final) night winner was JASON ANDERSON! He was by far the fastest on both nights but got unlucky on the first night but he kept it clean and secured the win easily on the second night.

Let me know what you guys think! I took more photos than I usually would to share with you guys so I hope you found this post interesting. I will of course stick to my foodie post usually as I am a food lover at heart but hey who says you can't have more than one passion?

P.S. Will be back with my usual foodie / life posts...got a very special one coming up this weekend so stay tuned.

Until next time, catch you guys later!

Great post mate and wow what a night you must've had!

Supercross live is amazing and very different to watching TV coverage of it.

Looks like you guys had a blast! Meeting the GOAT also is another bucket list item ticked off :)

Thanks buddy, yeah it was awesome!

To be honest it was my first event EVER watching SX/MX live so it was great BUT I've been following the US SX/MX series since RC was on Kawi so I know ALL the riders (vs here where I only recognised the main Aussie guys + US imports).

Yes, I'll never forget meeting the GOAT! Did you get to meet any of the riders when you were in Vegas?

Wow man, motorbikes are so not my thing lol! My boyfriend has been asking if he can get a Ducati and I forever say no! I think we do well with his Vespa 🛵 lol!!

Haha Ducati's are AWESOME! Does he want a Ducati Monster? But yes they're dangerous for sure. I wouldn't ride a road bike here in Sydney, the drivers are too careless. A Vespa is super cute to get around!! Do you ride it too?
