So I was doing my Saturday chores just at home with family and this song stuck to my head while I was cleaning. I always love listening to old sentimental songs while my husband loves to listen to heavy metal/rock songs. Music is just so powerful that it can change your mood sometimes. And pardon me, I have got the "last song syndrome." It is Fast Car by Tracy Chapman. This 1988 hit is one of my many favorite classic.
"You got a fast car
I want a ticket to anywhere
Maybe we make a deal
Maybe together we can get somewhere
Any place is better
Starting from zero got nothing to lose
Maybe we'll make something
Me, myself I got nothing to prove"
I was not born on that era but growing up in the Philippines where radio stations played various type of music such as sentimental love songs/ballad, different types of rock (slow, heavy, folk), R&B,pop, new wave and etc. Up to this day, they played oldie music especially if it classical and made it to the top of the chart. But this particular song has some extra touch to it because it talks about life. Anybody can relate to the message of the song. It is quite emotional, can be depressing but full of hopes and motivation that you can stir your life into different direction if you want to. That you can rise up and meet the challenge and become successful in life.
" You got a fast car
I got a plan to get us out of here
I been working at the convenience store
Managed to save just a little bit of money
Won't have to drive too far
Just 'cross the border and into the city
You and I can both get jobs
And finally see what it means to be living"
It draws inspiration. It talks about hope , it talks about changing life for the better.
" You got a fast car
Is it fast enough so we can fly away
We gotta make a decision
Leave tonight or live and die this way
So remember we were driving, driving in your car
Speed so fast I felt like I was drunk
City lights lay out before us
And your arm felt nice wrapped 'round my shoulder
I had a feeling that I belonged
I had a feeling I could be someone, be someone, be someone."
There is some more to the lyrics and I apologized it is not in order but I just featured some of the parts that I remembered well.
Goodnight America and Good morning Philippines!
Happy weekend! Steem On!
