The Practical Ways of Living the Golden Rules
Rules is a lot different from laws. Law is a system of rules that are enforced through social institution in order to govern us and our action. Rules on the other hand is an understood regulation or principles governing conduct within a particular activity or sphere. Thus the variation between law and rule is that law govern our action and rules guides us.
Rules and guides are essential part of our life in directing our actions and our way in life. It shapes how we live our life and on how we respond on every condition of our existence. Rules and guides are popular in every religion and philosophical notions. One of those rule stands in Confucius golden rule and is also present in Christianity. It is said that living this rule alone can transform life.
Confucius and the Christian’s golden rules is not just a simple rule but it is a rule on how we should live; it is a way of life. Western religious group has followed this rules and have attained a way of life that is fair and practical. But those who followed them and made their testimonial were people in the history. But in today’s generation there were only a few of us who followed them
Do not do unto others what you do not want others do unto you. (Confucius)
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. (Luke 6:31}
Think on how do you want to be treated? (Show Empathy to Others)
It is true to say that we don’t want to be treated badly because we constantly wanted to be treated fairly. Though the golden rule doesn’t literally mean that we should treat someone exactly as we wanted them to treat us. The Golden Rule teaches us to reflect on how others wanted to be treated base on how we should be treated. Upon realizing them we should take the initiative to treat them well. We must put ourselves to the shoe of others and think on how we should be treated. Realizing and putting our own self to the shoe of the other person help us to effectively recognize how we should treat them.
Show Respect and Kindness
Human being by nature has dignity in themselves. We should know how to treat others accordingly even though we don’t know them. Our interaction should not define the manner in which we should treat the other person. We should respect the other person as we respect our own dignity. Our kindness must not only available for those whom we knew but also for those we don’t know and are stranger to us. Respect and kindness must be given to all wither to those people whom we know and for those who are stranger to us.
Respect and kindness must not only be given to others we should also give it to ourselves first. After giving it to ourselves then we are now ready to give respect and kindness to others.
Show your Compassion to others
Life is sometimes tough and someone is experiencing life in suffering. Imagine that what you do to others is you are doing it to yourself. Removing the notion that they are “other” and realizing that the other person is “our own self” then ask yourself how you would treat yourself.
We must show to others that we care for them and we have concern to them. We must not consider things in ourselves and forget to show empathy and compassion to others. Other suffers because we made them suffer and they suffer because our own act.
There are a lot of cause for someone who experienced suffering; be it in emotional or financial suffering. But the most effective relief to any kind of suffering is the compassion and concern from the other person. It may not solve their problem but the aid of compassion and care is just enough to aid the pain of suffering.
Live an Authentic way of Life (Considering the consequences of our action)
Our action can determine the cause and effect of our choices. If we choose to act and choice to treat other in a way that it does not coincide to the means of how we want to be tread the consequences of our action will return to us the way we treated others. Considering the consequences of our action on the people around us means taking care and having responsibility over them.
Living an authentic life is living an honest life and living our choices in a way that we do not fake them. Our actions must be authentic and by not doing them because we ask and wanted to be treaded back on the way we wanted it; or to be rewarded back. Applying the golden rule must be voluntary for its consequences returns automatically if we do not fake them. We must apply the golden rule without thinking and asking for the consequences of our act of going virtuous things to others.
The consequences of an immoral act are violence
Apply the Golden rule in your Life
Applying the Golden Rule in our life is not an easy task and requires a lot of practice and perseverance. Living the Golden rule is something that is important as breathing. The golden rule is like an air, food and water that gives us life and practicing and applying the Golden Rule in our life can start a small and then a bigger change in our life. The Golden rule is a timeless and universal “Rule & Principles” that can guide our way of life – it is a course and a journey that we can learn little by little as we apply them into our life. We may not perfectly follow them at first but as we practice it and make it as a habit we could perfectly live a practical life out of following the “Golden Rule”.
