Do you think of yourself incapable of doing things on your own? Say, if you are now working on your field of expertise, you feel pressure knowing that there is far more experienced than you are. You heard from a news telling you that a 19-year-old created a social networking site back in his dorm and boom, the site was an instant hit.
Then you instantly look at yourself and feel like crap for not doing the same.
Bu that’s not it, after your done feeling crappy for yourself, you start to go out and gain more knowledge and experience. But when you have more knowledge and experience you still feel inadequate. It’s like there is something you need to have but you can’t figure it out.
This is not because you do not have the knowledge and experience. This is a complete lie. We have all the knowledge and experience we ever need.
It is because we do not have Resourcefulness. Or more importantly, we do not developed resourcefulness in us, yet.
But What Does “Being Resourceful” Mean?
- Being resourceful is having the ability to solve difficult situations in each task quickly and in a clever way.
- Being resourceful is a feeling of confidence within you. That you can do things. That no matter how inconsequential things are, that no matter how bad the situation is, you will overcome it.
- Being resourceful doesn’t let negativity get in the way. They simply don’t give up, instead they strive harder and use available resources to achieve goals.
- Being resourceful doesn’t end in Plan A only. Resourceful people are always working on multiple plans.
- Being resourceful is now a necessary skill and plays a vital role in todays generation.
The AHA! Moment !
How Do You Develop Resourcefulness?
Be confident. Self-confidence means that you can do anything. You can handle any problem. Recognizing yourself that you are competent and adequate enough to do something is the first step to actually getting it done. Go ahead and do the things you are uncomfortable doing. You must do it yourself without telling your friends even your family.
I am not suggesting that you go use and sell drugs. All I’m saying is that you volunteer yourself to a nonprofit organization and doing charitable deeds. Volunteering can make you feel like you are being part of something big, you feel like you are being part of the community you are helping.
You can talk to someone you’re interested in. Strike up a conversation and see what you have in common. Maybe you have found a new buddy and besties. You’ll never know you can be partners in business.
Public speaking. This is quite scary to think about especially when you are called to speak in a live audience. This can also develop good communication skills. It boosts your confidence knowing that they listen to your speech, interact with it and even approves of it.
If you’re really brave enough, go climb a mountain. If you are afraid of the heights, go climb high up. But not too high at first, just enough that you feel afraid. Feel the experience. Next, go a little higher until you are on the top and you can no longer feel scared. A climb on the top is worth the view.
They say Life is too short so make the most out of it. Do the things outside of your comfort zone and things will become better.
And this is how you will develop your resourcefulness.
