Fall weather is almost over and I’m a little sad.

The leaves that were dancing from the trees are all decorating the ground and are getting plastered down with the new rain.

My favorite is watching the big maples dropping their coats. Here in the Washington and Oregon area we have a native tree called the ‘Big Leaf Maple’ (acer macrophyllium, for those who care).

My favorite man (in front of one of our maples) modeling a knit sweater that I had made specially for him but that he doesn’t like. (big sigh!) He’s a good sport for at least wearing it long enough for pictures. :)

The maple trees get large but the leaves are spectacular - generally between 6 and 11 inches long but we have a lot of leaves that get about a foot long.

The leaves on the smallest saplings look so funny to have huge leaves on their spindly branches.

The rustle when walking through the ponds of leaves in fall is the rustle of a bamboo forest and my feet sinking into the surface as they float on the tops of the grass is like a bright and toasty hug.

I could use a little extra fall this autumn.

(Except for cleaning the leaves out of the rain gutters. I could live just fine if I never had to climb up to the roof to clean rain gutters.)
