Hi Dear readers !

Currently I spend the holy month of Ramadan at my big sister in Marrakech the beautiful tourist city of Morocco.

I took a video quickly with my smartphone while walking in the center of the city near the historic KOUTOUBIA mosque.

This is my first video that I put in DTube, and I hope you will like it.

The Koutoubia mosque is a religious building built in the twelfth century in Marrakech and representative of the art of Almohades.

The Koutoubia Mosque is a true architectural masterpiece of Spanish-Hispanic influences.

Name of the mosque : Koutoubia Mosque

Place of the mosque : Marrakech

Year of construction : 1120

Date of reshuffle : from 1162 under the reign of Almohad Abu Yusuf Yaqub al-Mansur. He completed the work with a superb minaret, a true architectural masterpiece of Hispano-Moorish influences.

History of the mosque : The Koutoubia mosque, or mosque of booksellers, was started under the Berber dynasty of the Almoravids. The mosque became one of the most characteristic buildings of this style. Its name comes from the fact that it was located in the souk of the manuscript dealers.

Builder : Abdelmoumen, the first ruler of the Almohad dynasty built this mosque in the twelfth century. His grandson Yacoub El Mansour

Specificities : The mosque of booksellers is organized on a T-plan. This tradition exists since the construction of the mosque of Kairouan in the nineteenth century, and is also found in Spain. It is in fact a hypostyle Arab plan, that is to say comprising a large courtyard surrounded by a portico and a prayer room with columns. The naves are perpendicular to the wall of qibla, that of the center being wider; and the span that runs along the wall qibli is also magnified, which forms a T, hence the name. The mihrab is treated as a very deep niche, and the minaret, 69 m high, is square in section, according to the tradition of the Muslim west.

The mosque of the booksellers keeps a beautiful minbar dating back to 1137, made in Cordoba for another mosque. Like most of those of Occident, it is mobile (on wheels), composed of different species of wood but without ivory. The bill of decor, extremely fine, in postponements, would have taken seven years. It presents in particular small arches glued to each other that mark the steps, and a taste of polychromy is notable.

At the top of the minaret, there are 3 superimposed balls whose diameter is decreasing symbolize the Earth, Water and Fire.
